Vallehermoso will host the Canary Islands Long Distance Road Championship on September 19

The cycling event is the second edition of the “Sergio Martín Perdomo” Memorial and will take place over a total route of 72 kilometers starting and ending in Chipude.

The Plenary Hall of the Vallehermoso City Council hosted this Wednesday, August 12, the presentation of the II “Sergio Martín Perdomo” Memorial, which this year will become the sole event of the Canary Islands Long Distance Road Championship and which will be attended by the main runners of the archipelago.

Thus, the test will be held on September 19 on a three-lap circuit, starting and ending in Chipude, which will run through Igualero, the Pajaritos intersection, the Las Hayas intersection and El Cercado, completing a total route of 72 kilometers.

For this reason, and because of the importance of having that day with the elite of Canarian cycling, the mayor of the town, Emiliano Coello, assured that for Vallehermoso this test will be a challenge that will generate many economic incentives, "so we must pay close attention to all the appropriate measures so that there is no incident that has to do with covid."

And health and sports safety will be a priority for the organization led by the El Fogueo Cycling Club, as its president, Ricardo Coello, pointed out, when he assured that "we will have to strictly follow the measures so that everything goes perfectly." Likewise, he remembered the figure of his friend Sergio Martín, "who had the idea of carrying out this test and we hope to continue repeating it every year in his honor."

For his part, the president of the Canarian Cycling Federation, Ramón Sierra, explained that for this test "we will have the best riders in the Canary Islands, from the different categories, so that it really is a great championship." Likewise, he pointed out that "they are all very eager to run, since this year has been quite complicated, with very few races, and the truth is that it is going to be a great participation success."

The Insular Sports Councilor, Rosa Elena García, spoke along the same lines, and also highlighted the increase in the number of followers and cycling clubs in La Gomera, allowing athletes to enjoy this privileged territory for sport and us to enjoy with them.

Finally, the Sports Councilor of the Vallehermoso City Council, Óscar Luis Hernández, recalled that until the launch of this event in the municipality last year, the island did not have a race of this category. For this reason, and after the great acceptance of 2019, “the idea arose of asking the Federation to make it the Canary Islands Championship” facing the challenge with optimism, but with caution.

Finally, he recalled that the test is organized by the El Fogueo Cycling Club in coordination with the Vallehermoso City Council, and has the collaboration of the Island Council and the Canarian Cycling Federation.
