In the next plenary session, the spokesperson for the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group, Casimiro Curbelo, will ask the president of the Canary Islands Government about the actions of the different executives and entities responsible for preventing energy zeros.
He will also question the vice president and counselor of Economy, Industry, Commerce and the Self-Employed about the adaptation of the 2026/2027 Vocational Training offer to the island's productive needs.
Saturday, November 7. The Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group (ASG) will submit to the Government of the Canary Islands for examination in the next control session two issues that have a direct impact on the daily life and economic activity of the Archipelago: the protection of the electricity supply against blackouts and the correspondence between the Vocational Training offer and the profiles that each island needs.
Its spokesperson, Casimiro Curbelo, will require an evaluation of the actions developed to reduce the vulnerability of electrical systems and the guarantees that accompany the expansion of professional education. Both initiatives will focus on the capacity of public policies to offer security to homes, facilitate business activity and expand the employment options of young people.
Less vulnerability and faster response to outages
Curbelo will ask the President of the Government what the different executives and responsible entities have done to avoid energy zeros. The initiative will address both the measures adopted and the pending interventions and the deadlines for their implementation.
The ASG leader will refer to the episodes suffered in La Gomera and La Palma and their consequences for families, businesses and essential services. It will examine advances promoted since the energy emergency declaration, including backup generation, equipment renewal, and investments in networks and storage.
The priority will be to determine when the necessary facilities will be operational and what capacity each island system will have to respond to a major failure. To do this, it will propose planning by islands with defined investments, identified responsible parties and calendars subject to monitoring.
In La Gomera, emphasis will be placed on the electrical interconnection with Tenerife, accompanied by the maintenance of sufficient capacity at the El Palmar plant to address possible incidents on the link. Regarding La Palma, it will urge the renewal of generation equipment, the incorporation of storage and the completion of pending transport infrastructure.
Curbelo will include among its priorities the reinforcement of networks, alternative connections and the review of recovery protocols, with periodic tests and preferential attention to hospitals, water supply and telecommunications.
Training that allows you to work and develop a life project
The second question will be addressed to the vice president and counselor of Economy, Industry, Commerce and the Self-Employed to find out if the FP 2026/2027 offer responds to the economic and productive needs of each island.
The ASG spokesperson in the Autonomous Chamber will recognize the announced expansion of 184 new implantations, ten of them in La Gomera, and the possibilities offered by teachings related to agroecological production, the natural environment, information technology or emergencies. It will also link training planning with the preparation of professionals for renewable energies, the blue economy and digital technologies.
Curbelo will condition the effectiveness of this expansion to the availability of teachers, equipment and practical training. It will pay special attention to islands with a smaller business network, where organizing training in companies requires specific agreements and support to incorporate small businesses.
Likewise, it will promote criteria that allow small groups to be supported when there is a justified territorial need, along with transport and accommodation aid that facilitates student access.
Likewise, it will propose coordinating Economy, Education and Employment with councils, centers and companies, and evaluating by island and specialty the teachings effectively implemented, the completion of studies and subsequent job opportunities. He will explain that the objective of ASG is for young people to be able to choose where to build their future and for companies to find the professionals they need in their environment.
