ASG celebrates the opening of the first sales point in Playa de Santiago as a boost to the fishing sector

ASG celebra la apertura del punto de primera venta de Playa de Santiago como un impulso al sector pesquero

Casimiro Curbelo values the materialization of a demand by fishing professionals, which allows La Gomera to have two first-sale points and facilitates the marketing of catches in the port itself.

The general secretary recalls that the Cabildo has approved more than 900,000 euros in direct incentives for the primary sector, which generates more than 160 direct jobs on the island

Saturday, November 7. Gomera Socialist Group (ASG) values the launch of the first sale point in the Port of Playa de Santiago, an action that responds to a demand from the fishing sector and reinforces the possibilities of marketing its catches. With this service, La Gomera now has two points of sale, the one in Valle Gran Rey and the one in Playa de Santiago, expanding the resources intended to support the activity of the island's artisanal fleet.

The general secretary of ASG, Casimiro Curbelo, who visited the facilities, highlighted that the materialization of this demand represents “an important advance for the fishermen of Playa de Santiago, who have a necessary service to market their products in the same port and carry out their work in better conditions.” In this sense, he stressed that "we are talking about an improvement with direct effects on the local economy, because it makes it easier for fishing activity to generate new opportunities in its environment."

Curbelo pointed out that the start-up of this point of first sale is the result of previous work to provide the port with the necessary equipment and services, including the installation of an ice machine intended for the conservation of catches. This improvement, promoted by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, in coordination with the Cabildo of La Gomera, allows us to reinforce the means available to professionals.

The general secretary of ASG insisted on the role of the primary sector in the economy and territorial cohesion of La Gomera. "Supporting our fishermen, farmers and ranchers is defending employment, local production and an essential part of our identity. These are activities that keep our people alive and that need public support to face their difficulties and ensure their continuity," he said.

In this context, he recalled that the Cabildo has approved direct incentives for more than 900,000 euros for the primary sector, an activity that generates more than 160 direct jobs on the island. These resources make it possible to meet needs such as the acquisition of new boats or the expenses derived from Social Security contributions.

"Direct aid must be accompanied by services and infrastructure that are useful on a daily basis. The launch of the first sales point in Playa de Santiago responds to this objective: to offer more tools to the fishing sector to maintain its activity, improve its marketing opportunities and contribute to the economic development of La Gomera," concluded Curbelo.
