San Sebastián will make La Punta one of the most open beaches on La Gomera

The mayor of the capital presents the details of the project, which is being worked on, and for which 636,000 euros have already been allocated from the FDCAN

The mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes, presented this Wednesday, February 19, the details of the future recreation area, located on La Punta Beach, and for which the city council has financing from the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN), allocating an amount of 636,447 euros.

“A new space open to the sea, designed for the recreation of residents and visitors, which continues with the philosophy of the project that we opened to the public in 2017 on San Sebastián Beach and which became a success, being used daily by a large number of people,” said Reyes.

In that sense, he announced that "the new area will have a useful area of close to 1,200m2 that will include, among other elements, a walkway with direct access to the sea, at the height of the kiosk located on Avenida de Los Descubridores, a stand and a large solarium with benches and tables."

Likewise, an area for children's use has been planned, "with the aim of offering a recreation area, with play elements, that allows the enjoyment of the little ones while adults take the opportunity to rest in an environment designed for the comfort of users."

Regarding accessibility, the project will set the entrance to the area at the same level as the avenue, including accessible showers, both in the solarium area and in the space above the breakwater. All this, together with the bathroom, which already exists, and which is adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Along with this, it is important to highlight that, at a construction level, it will be carried out using a reversible type structure, taking into account the criteria requested by the General Directorate of Coasts, responsible for giving the final approval to the entire project as a prior step to putting it out to tender.

Finally, Reyes announced that the City Council will continue to improve and enhance the capital's coastal front, which is why he announced the City Council's intention to seek a framework for collaboration between administrations that will allow obtaining financing to renew, among others, the pavement and street furniture of one of the busiest spaces, on a daily basis, in the capital of La Gomera.
