San Sebastián de La Gomera activates the Municipal Emergency Plan and adopts new decisions

The objective of this measure is to strengthen coordination with other administrations, guarantee public services and make all devices and resources available to face the Coronavirus pandemic.

The City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera has activated the Municipal Emergency Plan since this Monday, March 16. The objective of this measure is to strengthen coordination with other administrations, guarantee public services, and put all the devices and resources of the local administration to face a potential advance of the pandemic that could occur in the municipality.

This decision is adopted after the announcement by the central government of the declaration of the state of alarm, in force since last Sunday, and which will adjust to the measures that, as the highest authority, it decrees from this moment, according to the mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes.

Likewise, and along with the measure, Reyes announced that new decisions have been adopted for the municipality of immediate application:

• Closure of visits to the municipal cemetery. Likewise, in the event that a death occurs, family members will be recommended that the wake be held with the smallest number of attendees possible, reducing the condolence environment to the closest possible.
• Temporary suspension of the belongings collection service.
• Solid waste collection, street cleaning and home help service personnel will have new elements to reinforce their self-protection that guarantee the normality of the services they provide daily.
• Administration staff will be organized with rotating shifts, combining physical presence with teleworking.
• Disinfectant gel has been distributed so that all public workers can have the necessary hand cleaning tools within their reach.
• Prevention measures are reinforced at the La Inmaculada Residence by applying the protocols of the Ministry of Health and the instructions of the Government of the Canary Islands.
• In order to comply with the regulations on limiting movements, messages will be announced over the public address system, in the morning and afternoon and in three languages, for the population and tourists who may still remain on the island.
• The municipal bus service will reduce the available seats on trips by half, maintaining schedules and regularity of these.
• Measures have been taken to mark and sign all children's play areas that do not have access doors indicating that they remain closed. An appeal is made to the population to respect this indication, and if not, the Local Police may act.
• Elderly people who live alone at home in San Sebastián de La Gomera and who have been referred by the Department of Social Services to the soup kitchen managed by Cáritas Diocesana de Tenerife, will receive the daily meal individually, thus avoiding risk situations.
• The Local Police joins the device to avoid concentrations of people or non-compliance with the orders and guidelines established by the central Government, the Government of the Canary Islands or the City Council itself. In this sense, it is recalled that the sanctions for non-compliance can amount to up to 30,000 euros if there is disobedience or resistance to the agents.
• All essential public services, especially emergency services, may be mobilized with the aim of taking any measure, in coordination with health authorities, to stop the coronavirus pandemic.

The City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera has called on citizens to respect all the recommendations and guidelines of the administrations with the aim of preserving health and facing this serious health crisis. To do this, all communication and dissemination resources available from the local administration available on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will be used.

Some measures that join those already announced last Friday that include the closure of social centers, public parks such as Torre del Conde and children's areas in the municipality. In addition, the library service, the Youth Center and all sports facilities are suspended.

Regarding the Iballa municipal daycare center, and in line with the order of the Government of the Canary Islands, it will be closed during the same period, as well as all the premises owned by the City Council that are used by the different social and sports groups.

In addition, it is recommended to use telematic channels or the telephone in the event of having to carry out procedures or queries to the City Council, limiting access to the City Hall facility exclusively to the municipal registry. In this sense, it is recalled that the City Council's general telephone number is 922141072, while the secretary's telephone number is 922141354 and the multipurpose building's telephone number is 922870236.

It is also important to highlight that the suspension of terms and the interruption of deadlines for administrative procedures has been decreed since yesterday, Sunday, so as not to harm citizens.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the Department of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands maintains a free telephone line activated (900 112 061), from which a Nursing team, under the coordination of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), will respond to requests for information from citizens on prevention measures, possibilities of contagion and false concepts related to the virus.
