The councils will analyze the Pact for the Social and Economic Reactivation of the Canary Islands in two commissions

The FECAI convenes an economic-financial commission and another legal commission in order to address the document presented by the President of the Government last Friday

Curbelo reiterates that the future of the councils has to be linked to the authorization of the use of the surplus, debt and the simplification of administrative procedures

The Canary Islands Federation (FECAI) has agreed, this Monday, May 4, to convene two commissions to study the Pact for the Social and Economic Reactivation of the Canary Islands, presented last week by the regional government. The island presidents advanced the holding of an economic-financial and another legal commission in which to analyze in detail the proposals included in the document.

The current president, Casimiro Curbelo, stressed the importance of the town councils in the management of the crisis and their closeness to the daily life of each of the islands, "that together with the town councils, we are the first points that citizens turn to in a situation like the current one." Furthermore, he explained that these two commissions will serve to unite criteria and come out with agreed proposals for incorporation into the initial document.

The councils reiterated, once again, that the authorization of the use of remainder, the surplus and debt be allowed, as well as the simplification of administrative procedures for the implementation of measures and aid to alleviate the consequences of Covid-19 on the economy of the islands.

"We need these tools to face the drop in income and provide ourselves with the necessary liquidity. We have to know what resources we have and how the surplus spending and the level of debt will be carried out, along with the different resources that link the State and the Autonomous Community," he noted.

Curbelo added that another line of work established is the recovery of the tourism sector, for which work spaces are being coordinated between the councils and the Department of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, with the aim of collaborating with the proposed roadmap. “We must commit to converting the islands into a protocol laboratory and contributing to making the destination a reference in security,” he asserted.
