The Old Casino of Hermigua welcomes this Thursday, from 6:00 p.m., the recognition of the gum writer Isabel Medina
Among the events planned within the program organized by the Island Council on the occasion of International Women's Day, which is commemorated on March 8, the recognition of the Gomera writer, Isabel Medina, stands out.
A native of the municipality of Hermigua, the poet, narrator and playwright who has more than 30 written works, will star in the event scheduled at the Old Casino in this town, tomorrow, Thursday, March 5, at 6:00 p.m., along with the presentation of the play 'Mujeres Canarias`.
Committed to equality and the defense of the rights of humanity, it is easy to perceive these ideals in her works. Her permanent vindication against inequality and the forgetfulness of the role of women in literature is palpable in one of her last works, "Olympe de Gouges, la libertad por bandera", a historical novel that recreates the life of this writer who fought during the French Revolution for women's rights.
In addition to this recognition of the writer Isabel Medina, the Island Council, together with the Canarian Institute of Equality and the Island Service for Women, have designed a set of activities with music, literature, art and testimonies as axes to commemorate International Women's Day throughout the week.
