The Island Council is promoting an initiative that unites designers and creatives under a common brand that begins next Saturday, November 15, at the Port of Vueltas in Valle Gran Rey, starting at 6:00 p.m.
The project was born with the objective of strengthening fashion from sustainability, identity and innovation.
The Cabildo of La Gomera promotes the “La Gomera, Fashion and Magic” program, an initiative that seeks to strengthen the island's fashion sector, fusing tradition with innovation and adapting La Gomera creativity to new times. The project was born with the intention of creating a distinctive seal that unifies and supports the textile sector, serving as a platform to make local talent visible, promote entrepreneurship and generate new opportunities for economic development.
The president of the Cabildo of La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that "this project represents a firm commitment to diversify the island economy, promoting a sector with enormous creative and commercial potential. Fashion is also a way of projecting to the world our identity, our culture and the ability to innovate locally." Likewise, he stressed the importance of promoting an ecosystem that encourages entrepreneurship and professionalization, attracting and retaining young talent on the island.
For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Consumption, María Isabel Méndez, explained that "'La Gomera, Moda y Magia' will be within the Canarias Islas de Modas brand, aimed at showing the talent of the islands' designers, gaining visibility and positioning themselves inside and outside the archipelago. In addition, they will do so based on sustainability and quality."
The program is based on sustainability as the backbone, promoting responsible design and the creation of timeless garments, made through environmentally friendly processes. In this way, fashion is promoted that lasts over time, aligned with the environmental and cultural values of La Gomera.
Presentation on November 15 at 6:00 p.m.
Next Saturday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m., the seal will be officially presented in a unique parade that will take place in Puerto de Vueltas, in Valle Gran Rey. This event will mark the first step of the program and will make it possible to announce the first companies and designers who are joining the project after months of identification and advice work.
Under the direction of Edgar Magdalena, about a dozen Gomero creatives will participate in this first exhibition, which will feature the closing of the Filst brand, by the young Gomero designer Diego Barroso, winner of the Best Collection award at the Tenerife Fashion International Contest and representative of the Canary Islands of Fashion after its recent success at Milan Fashion Week.
Coinciding with this first edition of LGMM, a press trip has been organized with national media specialized in fashion and lifestyle, who will visit the island to learn first-hand about the project and the natural and cultural attractions of La Gomera. This promotional action will serve to project the image of the island as a creative, sustainable and inspirational destination, reinforcing its position as an ideal enclave for the development of activities linked to fashion and audiovisual production.
This project is promoted by the Cabildo of La Gomera and Proexca, the Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Valle Gran Rey City Council, Puertos Canarios and Canarias Islas de Moda.
