La Gomera will host the first edition of the IsLABentura Canarias 2026 Workshops, a training initiative promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands, with the collaboration of the Island Council and the Valle Gran Rey City Council, which will bring together professionals and fans of the audiovisual sector from July 20 to 24 at the Hotel Gran Rey to delve into the creation of scripts, the development of projects and the narrative construction based on the landscapes and stories of the archipelago.
The island's Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Consumption, María Isabel Méndez, highlighted the importance of hosting initiatives of this type, "which contribute to strengthening specialized training, energizing the cultural and creative fabric of the island, and generating new opportunities linked to the audiovisual industry." Likewise, he highlighted the value of La Gomera as a space for inspiration, creation and filming, thanks to the richness of its landscapes, its cultural identity and its stories.
The IsLABentura Canarias 2026 Workshops offer free access, with limited capacity, so that professionals, students and audiovisual enthusiasts can expand their knowledge and creative tools with the help of renowned experts. The program will address key areas of the audiovisual writing and creation process, such as narrative, character construction, creative uniqueness, directing actors and actresses, and professional project presentation.
The programming open to the public will be developed with sessions taught by Cristina Merino, Enrique Buleo, Ariadna Ribas, Diana Rojo and Alba Lucío, focused on the professional presentation of projects, the generation of ideas, the editing applied to the script, the creation of characters and the professional conditions of the scriptwriters. In addition, the program will include specific work and mentoring sessions not open to the public, led by María Elízaga and Natalia Mateo, aimed at delving into the analysis of characters and the direction of actors and actresses for screenwriters.
IsLABentura Canarias aims to promote the creation of scripts linked to the archipelago, promoting the landscapes, stories, traditions and singularities of the islands to become a starting point for new audiovisual works. In this sense, holding the workshops in La Gomera reinforces the role of the island as a creative setting and territory with potential for the development of film and television projects.
