Initiative for La Gomera (IxLG) claims to improve digital connectivity in all the population centers of the island to expand opportunities for training, teleworking and entrepreneurship since it is considered that access to adequate communications should be addressed as a condition to participate in the economy and use services, and not as a privilege linked to the place of residence.
The program pays special attention to opportunities for young people and women, and advocates that the place where they live does not limit the possibilities of learning or developing an activity. The training suggests that reducing the differences in connectivity between the centres can favour new working methods and make it easier for some people to maintain their professional project without having to move outside La Gomera.
IxLG stresses that the improvement of networks must be accompanied by real possibilities for training and use. The goal is not to install technology as an end in itself, but to turn it into a useful tool to undertake, update skills or access educational resources. The candidacy proposes to promote this vision in state policies that affect communications and rural development.
"Living in a small nucleus should not close doors to study, work or launch an initiative. We want connectivity to reach all of La Gomera and serve to open up opportunities, especially for young people and women," says Raquel Correa Marichal, the first alternate candidate for the Senate for IxLG.
The training recalls that digital transformation must coexist with face-to-face services for those who need them. With this dual perspective, IxLG proposes to advance in the connection of peoples without leaving anyone behind and link digital infrastructures to its broader project of roots, local employment and equitable access to opportunities.
