The XXIV Pedro Suárez Cultural Festival will pay tribute to the teachers who marked the history of Vallehermoso

The event will recognize the women who dedicated their lives to teaching and whose memory remains in the collective memory

The Vallehermoso City Council will celebrate this Thursday, June 18, a new edition of the Pedro Suárez Cultural Festival, an event that will be dedicated to the teachers who were part of the educational and social history of the municipality.

The Pedro Suárez Cultural Festival was born in 2002 as a tribute to the figure of the renowned folklorist, poet and prominent resident of Vallehermoso, Don Pedro Suárez. Since then, it has been consolidated as one of the main cultural references of the municipality and as a space intended for the recognition of people and groups that have contributed to building the identity of Vallehermoso.

The twenty-fourth edition wants to pay tribute, collectively, to all those teachers who taught in the different towns of the municipality. Women who carried out their work in schools spread throughout the local geography and who played a fundamental role at a time when education was beginning to open new opportunities for many families.

For decades, schools were much more than spaces dedicated to learning. They constituted an essential meeting point in the life of the towns and were part of the daily reality of generations of families. The work of the teachers transcended the educational field and was closely linked to the social evolution of Vallehermoso and the changes that the municipality experienced over time.

The tribute will highlight the role that women played in that process. Many came from other places to join teaching in the municipality and others developed a large part of their personal and professional career here. They all shared the same vocation of service and contributed to consolidating education as a fundamental tool for the progress of society.

The mayor of Vallehermoso, Emiliano Coello, highlights that "this tribute is born from the gratitude of an entire town towards women who played an essential role in the training of entire generations. The teachers contributed to expanding opportunities, accompanied the growth of many boys and girls and left a deep mark on the lives of our families."

For her part, the Councilor for Culture, Estrella Morales, points out that "this tribute is built from memories shared by the people themselves. Photographs, testimonies and experiences that have allowed us to recognize women who were part of the daily life of Vallehermoso and whose memory is still very present in many families."

A tribute built by the people

The event will combine audiovisual testimonies from teachers linked to different stages of education in the municipality, theatrical recreations starring the actress Mar Gutiérrez and the participation of numerous neighbors who will be part of different scenes represented during the gala. The tribute is completed with school photographs, memories and documentary material donated by the citizens themselves, configuring a journey through the educational history of Vallehermoso built from shared memory.

The proposal has been conceived as a collective tribute to all the teachers who were part of the educational history of the municipality. Through testimonies corresponding to different generations and stages of teaching, the recovery of photographs of old school groups and the direct involvement of neighbors, the event will allow us to recognize the contribution of those who dedicated their lives to education and whose memory continues to be present in numerous families in Vallehermoso.

The event will take place this Thursday, June 18, at 9:30 p.m., in the Plaza de la Constitución, with the doors opening scheduled for 9:15 p.m. The program will also include a performance by the Parranda Pal Porrón.
