The sociocultural tourism program 'La Gomera Viaja' begins its first trips of the year

The first group begins its trip to Pamplona today and, at the weekend, a second expedition will leave for Valencia, while the first group of people with disabilities and reduced mobility will travel to Seville

Curbelo highlights the success of this initiative, aimed at strengthening social well-being and promoting active aging of more than 800 people on the island.

People participating in trips scheduled to depart on May 14 and 17 must attend an information meeting that will take place next Monday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m., in the Plenary Hall of the island institution.

The 'La Gomera Travels' program, promoted by the Cabildo, successfully begins its first trips of the year, transporting dozens of seniors from the island to their planned sociocultural destinations in Pamplona and Valencia. Starting today, Thursday, the participants are already on their way to visit emblematic enclaves of the Navarrese city, while another group will leave on Sunday for the Levantine town; and the first group of people with disabilities and reduced mobility will travel to Seville.

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the good reception that this initiative has had since its implementation, and that this year it will benefit more than 800 people. “We have verified the great enthusiasm with which they have begun their journey, demonstrating that programs like this are not only essential to promote active aging, but also to facilitate spaces for coexistence, leisure and learning,” he added.

Likewise, Curbelo reiterated the Council's commitment to this type of initiatives, announcing that they will be maintained throughout the year, and that work is already underway to plan new outings to provide coverage for applicants who are on the waiting list.

For her part, the insular Minister of Social Policies, Rosa Elena García, who came to say goodbye to the first group of travelers, explained that they will enjoy cultural itineraries specifically adapted to their interests and needs, visiting places of historical and cultural relevance, always with the necessary logistical support to guarantee the safety and comfort of all travelers.

These trips are just the first of several that are already scheduled for the coming months, including one more year a specific call for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, who will be able to travel accompanied.

The program includes flights, transportation from the origin to the airport, internal transfers at the destination and a specifically adapted circuit of activities. In addition, each group has specialized accompanying staff and full insurance coverage throughout the trip.

Likewise, the trips have been scheduled to take place on dates with appropriate temperatures, avoiding periods of extreme cold or heat. The itineraries are developed outside the peak tourist seasons, seeking a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere that favors the enjoyment of the proposed destinations.
