The initiative, promoted by the Island Council, combines healthy leisure, education in values, environmental sustainability and knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage of La Gomera

The El Cedro Summer Camp has begun its summer programming this week as one of the leading socio-educational initiatives for the island's youth. The activity, promoted by the Island Council and held in the surroundings of the El Cedro Nature Classroom, offers participants an experience focused on coexistence, learning, healthy leisure and direct contact with nature.
The insular Youth Councilor, Guillermo Medina, visited this Thursday the boys and girls participating in the first shift of the camp, with the aim of learning first-hand about the development of the activity and taking stock of this first stay, which concludes this Friday.
Medina highlighted that the El Cedro Camp “once again demonstrates its value as a space for personal growth, coexistence and education in values for the youngest,” and stressed that this initiative “allows boys and girls to enjoy an enriching experience in a unique environment, while reinforcing camaraderie, autonomy, respect for the natural environment and the link with La Gomera.”
During these days, the participants have taken part in a program adapted to their age, with coexistence activities, hiking, games, workshops, excursions around El Cedro and proposals linked to nature, Gomera culture and youth participation. The programming also incorporates content related to sustainability, artistic expression, sports, traditional games and knowledge of the territory.
The island councilor recalled that the El Cedro Summer Camp takes place between June 29 and July 31, with the participation of more than 200 minors distributed in different shifts and age groups, between 10 and 15 years old.
Likewise, Medina valued the work of the team responsible for the organization and dynamization of the activity, as well as the involvement of the families, "who trust each year in this project as a safe, educational and enriching alternative for the summer."
