The Cabildo of La Gomera and the DISA Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement by which the aforementioned entity provides resources to the island Institution for the acquisition of medical supplies dedicated to the healthcare centers on the island, with the aim of strengthening the prevention capacity of these infrastructures in which 120 users reside, classified as at-risk population.

The financial allocation has allowed the purchase of 3,000 FFp2 masks and 265 liters of hydroalcoholic gel, part of this batch has already begun to be distributed in the seven healthcare centers that provide service on the island, whether island or municipal owned.

The president, Casimiro Curbelo, valued the Foundation's gesture towards La Gomera society, especially this group "significantly vulnerable to the expansion of Covid-19." In this sense, he emphasized the restrictive measures carried out in these centers where visits have been suppressed and workers follow strict safety guidelines.

At the same time, he recalled that the Cabildo has already distributed a total of 60,000 gloves, 12,000 masks, more than 1,000 liters of bleach and another 1,000 overalls of personal equipment. “These resources have been distributed among the at-risk population, social-health centers and public services that serve the public,” he added.

For her part, Sara Mateos, director of the DISA Foundation, highlights the great work being done on the island in terms of prevention, proof of which has been the rapid management and acquisition of personal protection masks and gels. Furthermore, he wanted to add that the entire Foundation team "is working uninterruptedly with the rest of the councils, as well as the Canarian Health Service in order to contribute to the current situation and needs in the fight against Covid-19."

Currently, the organization has already donated more than 20,000 FFP2 masks, purchased expressly to help health professionals carry out their work with the greatest safety, and 6,000 gowns that stand out for being part of its DISLab project, a traveling laboratory for Canarian students. Also noteworthy is the support for non-profit entities to distribute computers and tablets with internet access to students or to ensure care for more than 1,000 seniors who live alone.
