The Cabildo guarantees the comprehensive management of the El Revolcadero Environmental Complex until 2028

The Plenary approves the spending commitment to ensure the operation of the El Revolcadero and Punto Limpio Environmental Complex for 22 months, as well as the execution of modernization and improvement actions

The Plenary Session of the Cabildo of La Gomera approved the multi-year spending commitment aimed at guaranteeing the management, control and environmental surveillance of the El Revolcadero Environmental Complex and the San Sebastián de La Gomera Clean Point during the period 2026-2028, with an investment of 7,752,004.93 euros.

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that this approval “makes it possible to guarantee the continuity of an essential public service for La Gomera and, at the same time, advance the modernization of the main island waste management center.” Curbelo pointed out that "this multi-year planning provides stability and security to the system, since it is not limited to the daily operation of El Revolcadero, but rather incorporates investments to improve the facilities, renew the equipment and reinforce the treatment capacity of the different fractions of waste that are generated on the island."

The assignment includes the comprehensive exploitation of the Environmental Complex, including the reception, control, classification, triage, conditioning, recovery, treatment and disposal of waste when appropriate. It also covers the management of the discharge vessel, leachate, biogas and covers, as well as the treatment of municipal solid waste, light packaging, paper and cardboard, bulky waste, plant remains and construction and demolition waste.

The service also includes preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance of buildings, networks, machinery, vehicles and equipment assigned to the service. Added to these tasks are the environmental control and monitoring of the facilities, compliance with authorizations and surveillance plans, the cleaning of waste dispersed by the effect of the wind and the implementation of new selective collection services, including those for used domestic oil and textile waste.

The insular advisor for Sustainability, Héctor Cabrera, explained that the program “combines the daily operation of the facilities with a planned intervention on their infrastructure and treatment processes.” According to Cabrera, "the objective is to increase the valorization of materials, progressively reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the pouring vessel and have more efficient, safe and adapted facilities and equipment to current environmental requirements."

The investment also includes the renewal of the baler and the compactor, resources for the repair of vehicles and machinery, the supply of aggregates to cover the pouring vessel, the performance of environmental controls and sampling, the acquisition of maintenance materials and the provision of a specific machinist support service. Cabrera indicated that "this planning will allow us to reinforce prevention, improve security conditions and have more rigorous control of all the activity that takes place in the complex."
