The Institution promotes events in which the figure of women will be valued in the development of the island
The artisan Lucrecia Amaya will be honored as a true reflection of a woman linked to the rural world and artisan trades
This Friday, the Cabildo of La Gomera presented the programming for the International Day of Rural Women, which will be commemorated on October 15. The Institution, through the departments of Social Policies and Crafts, together with the Specialized Service for Comprehensive Care and Intervention for Victims of Gender Violence, have designed a set of activities with training sessions, virtual exhibitions and recognition of the figure of rural women on the island.
Starting Tuesday, October 13, the virtual photography exhibition dedicated to the relevance of women in rural areas will be available. The exhibition is made up of snapshots of honored women, working in different jobs linked to La Gomera. The exhibition will be published through social networks and MásMujer magazine.
On Thursday, October 15, the manifesto designed by the Women's Assistance Service will be published, which this year will have social networks as the setting for its reading. In addition, the Torre del Conde Park will host a radio program on the empowerment and visibility of rural women with a discussion table on employability in rural areas.
The activities include a training session on digital tools for daily life dedicated to promoting their use among women, especially those who use social networks as a means of promoting their products. The event will take place on Thursday, October 15, in the Multipurpose Hall of Hermigua, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and has the collaboration of the Delegation of the Chamber of Commerce of La Gomera.
Tribute to Lucrecia Amaya
The Cabildo will dedicate a video tribute to the figure of rural women and the primary sector, in which crafts have played a relevant role. On this occasion, it will focus on Lucrecia Amaya, a weaving artisan who has contributed to the generational transfer of the craft and the preservation of traditions in a rural environment like Tamargada, in Vallehermoso.
