The insular Institution completes the subsidy procedure aimed at supporting the activity of a public service essential for mobility in La Gomera

Curbelo highlights that this aid helps alleviate the costs of the sector and reinforces the territorial cohesion of the island.
The Cabildo of La Gomera has paid the corresponding aid for the taxi sector with a total investment of 248,543.81 euros and 54 licenses benefited throughout the island.
These subsidies are intended to help cover expenses linked to the development of professional activity, including insurance policies, fuel, maintenance and repairs, Social Security contributions, as well as tax and labor advisory services, in accordance with the justification presented by each beneficiary.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, stressed that the payment of this aid “confirms the commitment of the insular Institution with an essential sector to guarantee mobility in La Gomera, especially in those areas where regular public transport has greater limitations.”
Curbelo stressed that the taxi “fulfills a social and territorial function of the first order,” by facilitating the movement of residents and visitors and contributing to the structuring of the island. “With this line of support we help offset part of the costs assumed by professionals and reinforce the continuity of a modern, stable and accessible service,” he stated.
Likewise, the president recalled that these measures are part of the island strategy to move towards a more efficient and sustainable mobility model, adapted to the territorial reality of La Gomera.
For her part, the Minister of Mobility, Cristina Ventura, highlighted that the completion of the procedure and the payment of the subsidies "respond to the work carried out to accompany the taxi sector and meet its real needs." In this sense, he explained that the call has made it possible to support 54 licenses, “directly contributing to alleviating the structural costs of an essential activity for daily mobility on the island.”
Ventura highlighted that the Cabildo maintains a permanent line of dialogue with taxi professionals to improve the efficiency of calls and adapt aid to the evolution of the sector. “The taxi is a key piece of the public mobility system and also an element that favors territorial cohesion, the local economy and the provision of services in all municipalities,” he added.
