The City Council allocates half a million euros to mitigate water losses in La Lomada

To tender the improvement of the supply network and the renewal of connections between several regulatory tanks that supply a large part of the capital

San Sebastián de La Gomera continues to take steps to reduce drinking water losses in its supply network. To this end, this Wednesday the City Council announced a new project, which is already out for tender, which includes a dozen actions that are expected to save more than 60% of water in the La Lomada area.

This was reported by the mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes, who announced that these actions, valued at 513,955 euros, will increase the general pressure of the network, "which will guarantee a better quality of supply to the entire neighborhood and a more rational use of water, a very limited good in a drought situation that shows no signs of abating in the medium term."

Along with this, he announced that the project includes the improvement of the filling of several regulatory tanks, as well as the waterproofing of two of them and the installation of several home connections that were pending to be carried out in previous actions in the supply network.

An initiative of the Government Group that continues the plans previously executed to minimize losses and that have allowed, to date, to reduce them by the equivalent of the daily consumption of a third of its population, and that join the leak detection campaign that is being worked on in other areas of the municipality.

Regarding the actions linked to the tanks, the Councilor for Works and Services, Nazaret Herrera, explained that the project includes the connection of La Hurona with the Molinito Alto foundry pipeline, and from this to El Molinito and La Hoya I. In addition, the improvement of the connection that runs from the La Hoya I and I deposits to the general network, as well as the one that goes from Molinito Alto to the Quesería, has been planned.

In addition, and due to the improvements that have been made in the general supply network, some home connections will be updated, including meters, in the La Lomada Public School, La Panadería street, Los Roques and Orilla del Llano, areas that usually have frequent breakdowns.

Finally, the La Hoya I tank will be adapted, with a capacity for 200 m3, and in Sardina, with 1000 m3. In both cases, the installation of a wall has been planned to divide the chambers to facilitate operations and their waterproofing using a PVC sheet.

For this reason, the bidding documents are now available on the Public Sector Contracting Platform, with those interested in participating until March 19 to submit their offers in electronic format.
