Curbelo demands the presence of the Canary Islands in AENA to promote airport infrastructure

The spokesperson for the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group explains that the Statute of Autonomy includes formulas to enable this measure
The spokesperson for the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, reiterated this Thursday, the 12th, the need for the Canary Islands to be part of the Board of Directors of the entity Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA), in order to promote the development and planning of the airport infrastructures of the Autonomous Community.
In the opinion of the Gomero deputy, a representation of the Archipelago must be part of the decision-making bodies of this entity, "since we must be aware and actively participate, from the first moment, in all the actions taken with respect to infrastructures as important for the development of the Canary Islands as the airports."
“We do not understand how an autonomous community, such as the Canary Islands, which has some of the most profitable airports in the country, is not present in AENA,” argued Curbelo. “It is necessary that our considerations and our needs are taken into consideration at the beginning and that we are present in the decision-making process,” he stated.
The ASG spokesperson in the regional Chamber stressed that the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands articulates some formulas that make this path possible. Likewise, he highlighted that "port and airport infrastructures are essential for the territorial cohesion and economic growth of our archipelago", which is why he emphasized that for this reason "we must have facilities in accordance with the demands and characteristics of the Islands."
"The Government of the Canary Islands has already transferred this request to AENA and, in principle, the entity is willing for the Canary Islands to participate in its decision-making bodies, so we trust that we will soon be able to materialize this request," he indicated. Finally, Curbelo demanded adequate financing to guarantee that the Canarian airports offer a service in line with the number of tourists who visit the Archipelago each year.
