The local spokesperson, Borja Barroso, pointed out that "municipal officials should not wait any longer, they should react and act now, recovering for the People the spaces that should belong to everyone, because what happens in Valle Gran Rey does not happen anywhere else, and we cannot continue allowing it to damage not only our merchants, but also our image as a tourist destination."
The councilors of the ASG Municipal Group in the Valle Gran Rey City Council have presented a motion for the defense and improvement of local commerce for debate and voting at the next ordinary plenary session of the Corporation. In this sense, Borja Barroso, spokesperson for ASG in the City Council, stated that "with this initiative, in addition to manifesting the commitment to the defense of commerce in Valle Gran Rey, urging all competent public administrations to implement policies that guarantee its maintenance and improvement, the Valle Gran Rey City Council is also urged to truly get involved with measures that protect our commercial fabric, especially, establishing everything necessary to completely eliminate illegal sales in the public spaces of the Municipality."
For the ASG spokesperson, "the mayor and his partners cannot delay any longer this issue that should have been resolved for a long time. Especially serious is the situation that is reproduced day after day in public spaces of the Town, such as in the maritime avenues and in San Pedro Square, where a significant number of people without any type of control or measure carry out an illegal sale of all types of objects and even food or drinks. And this is even more aggravated when we observe that this public space that should be for the enjoyment of the citizens of our "Municipality, especially for the youngest and oldest, at times becomes a center for the consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs, public disorders and activities that are not very edifying for society." In this sense, Barroso pointed out that "municipal officials should not wait any longer, they should react and act now by eliminating this type of actions, working closely with the security forces for control and recovering for the People the spaces that should belong to everyone, because what happens in Valle Gran Rey does not happen anywhere else, and we cannot continue allowing it to damage not only our merchants, but also our image as a tourist destination."
Likewise, the ASG councilors have requested the modification of the Regulatory Ordinance of the Municipal Market of Valle Gran Rey so that “it really is a true market, which also acts as a complement to the commercial offer that the Municipality has.” In this regard, Borja Barroso explained that "currently the periodic activity, especially on Sundays, that takes place in the Plaza de Lomo Riego, takes place under the umbrella of the Valle Gran Rey City Council without any type of security surveillance, which is mandatory in this type of event in a public space, without the application of measures subject to a security plan, taking into account that the Bus Station is in front, without control of what is sold there or by whom it is sold and an endless number of irregularities more than They lead to this so-called Market being anything but a market.” In this sense, the Spokesperson stated that "what we intend with this initiative is that those responsible for the City Council once and for all order, manage and administer this peculiar space of Valle Gran Rey as it deserves, opening it to the Municipality's own merchants, farmers and artisans, turning it into a space that complements the commercial offer of Valle Gran Rey and that does not compete illegally and unfairly with local commerce," said Barroso.
In short, the representatives of ASG pointed out that "in a tourist municipality like Valle Gran Rey, it is not only vitally important to take careful care of the conservation of public spaces or the adequate progress of tourist establishments, but it is also essential to have a solid and heterogeneous commercial fabric, which complements the offer of services and supplies required by our neighbors and those who visit us." For this reason, “Valle Gran Rey cannot and should not allow itself the luxury of not unconditionally supporting all local commerce with all those initiatives that allow the implementation of policies that not only guarantee its maintenance and protection against situations of unfair competition, but also promote its increase and improvement for the benefit of citizens,” concluded Barroso.
