Alajeró carries out workshops to commemorate the International Day of People with Disabilities

They will take place this Thursday in the Plaza del Carmen in Playa de Santiago and on December 11 in the schools of the municipality

The municipality of Alajeró holds various workshops for Diversity to commemorate the International Day of People with Disabilities organized by the Department of Social Services of the City Council of this town.

In this sense, this Thursday, December 4 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the Plaza del Carmen in Playa de Santiago the first of them will be held, aimed at all those people interested in these matters and in general residents of the municipal area. While on December 11, two more workshops will take place aimed at students from CEIP Alajeró and CEO Santiago Apóstol.

This initiative has the collaboration of the DiverGomera Association and the La Gomera Disability Association.

Specifically, the workshop that will take place this Thursday in Playa de Santiago aims to recognize all people with disabilities by making their situation on the street visible when talking about them, and demonstrating that everyone should have the same opportunities. We cannot forget that any person, regardless of their age, at any time in their life can become disabled, due to some illness or accident. The City Council considers that integration in the municipality and in society as a whole is key, giving a transformative perspective where we all feel safe and secure.

On the other hand, and also with this objective, two workshops are planned in educational centers to sensitize students to this reality.

As stated by the Department of Social Services of the City Council, these activities are carried out from the conviction that “we have an important task and a real commitment to continue transforming society, considering that this is how we continue to invest in people, integrating them in each project and in each municipal plan, thus ensuring that in the municipality, each person has dynamic and safe spaces to continue developing as a person, regardless of the disability they have.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated today, Wednesday, December 3, was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1992 with the purpose of promoting rights and development, as well as increasing awareness about the situation in political, social, economic and cultural aspects of daily life.
