The municipality promotes the dissemination of its agri-food heritage and prepares the Christmas Gastromarket, which will be held on December 27 in the Plaza de la Constitución
The Vallehermoso City Council is finalizing the preparations for the Christmas Gastromarket, which will take place on Saturday, December 27 in the Plaza de la Constitución. The event will bring together local gastronomy, workshops, crafts, tastings, live music and children's activities, consolidating itself as one of the main spaces for promoting local products on these dates. The initiative, in which the Island Council of La Gomera collaborates, seeks to strengthen the primary sector, promote direct sales and offer a meeting point for residents and visitors.
During the Lustral Festivals, the municipality developed numerous actions dedicated to highlighting the local product, with tastings, workshops and samples that made visible the work of farmers, winemakers and companies in the territory. The mayor, Emiliano Coello, stressed that “the promotion of what is ours is a way of recognizing the efforts of those who keep our landscape and our identity alive.” Along these lines, the City Council also maintains an annual subsidy to the Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin Vinos de La Gomera, intended to support its work of control, dissemination and strengthening of the island wine sector.
Added to this effort is the Raíces de Vallehermoso: Tierra, Viña y Palmas program, which offered various immersive experiences already held and aimed at bringing the public closer to the primary sector through guided tours, agricultural workshops and meetings with winemakers and farmers. The activities, carried out in September and October, registered a high participation and consolidated the initiative as an effective tool to strengthen the link between citizens and territory within the Dinamiza Rural program.
Balance of Wine Week
Wine Week, celebrated from November 27 to December 1, focused on the uniqueness of the Forastera Gomera variety and the relationship between landscape, tradition and wine culture. Its programming included tasting training, a technical visit to the Alisios winery, an artistic workshop dedicated to wine, and the presentation of the documentary Wineman. La Gomera, the heroic forastera and the event Forastera Gomera: Música y Verso, which combined a guided tasting, music and verses by local authors.
The program also incorporated the Passage of the Senses, an aromatic journey through characteristic elements of the Gomeran environment, and concluded with the celebration of San Andrés in Los Rabones, which reinforced the community component associated with the new wine. The public response confirmed the interest in these activities and supported the municipal strategy of integrating culture, the primary sector and social revitalization under the same project.
