The municipality will have numerous popular, cultural, sports and devotional events with an eye on the Day of the Descent
The performances of Los Tigres del Norte and Óscar de León stand out
The Plenary Hall of the Vallehermoso City Council hosted this Friday the
presentation of the programming of the Lustral Festivities 2025, an extensive program lasting more than two months and where popular, sporting and, above all, devotional events, once again mark the pulse of the municipality, which thus recovers its traditional celebration in this lustral year.
During the event, the mayor of Vallehermoso, Emiliano Coello, participated; the president of the Island Council, Casimiro Curbelo; the councilor for culture, Estrella Morales; the parish priest of Vallehermoso, Kevin Barroso; the president of the Festival Commission, José Luis Cabrera; César Rodríguez, representing Fred Olsen; as well as the author of the poster and crier of the festivities, Arón Morales.
The mayor of Vallehermoso, Emiliano Coello, highlighted that the Lustral Festivals represent an emotional reunion with tradition, faith and the collective identity of the municipality. “The Descent of the Virgin of Carmen from the Barranco de El Ingenio symbolizes the union of neighborhoods and generations, illuminating with its passage the memory, pride and hope of the people,” he expressed.
Likewise, he explained that it is a time to share, remember those who are no longer here and celebrate what unites us, with a program that combines culture and devotion thanks to the efforts of the City Council, the Festival Commission, the Cabildo as well as the parish and Fred Olsen.
The president of the Cabildo of La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that the Lustral Festivals of Vallehermoso represent an event of great relevance for the island's identity, as it is a tradition that strengthens the ties of the island and reinforces the cultural heritage of the municipality. "Every five years Vallehermoso becomes an altar and a plaza, a promise and a party. And when the Virgin of Carmen descends among chácaras and drums, it will not be just an image that comes down from El Ingenio, but the entire soul of La Gomera revealing itself to embrace us all." Furthermore, he stressed that this celebration not only has a religious value, but also a social and symbolic value, by becoming a meeting point between generations and a reunion space for neighbors, families and visitors.
Likewise, Curbelo reported that the Island Council has made available resources to support the organization of the scheduled events, in collaboration with the Vallehermoso City Council. This contribution will allow the holding of concerts, fairs and cultural activities. “Let the chácaras sound, let the drums speak, let the streets be filled with steps and hugs, because the Lustral Festivals are not counted, they are felt, they are lived, they are remembered and they are dreamed of until they return again,” he expressed.
A program designed for all audiences
For two months, the municipality will be filled with numerous musical, cultural, sports and religious events, highlighting, among others, the presentation of candidates for Adult Queen, which will take place on May 24, at 9:30 p.m., in Plaza del Carmen. May 16, 2025
The traditional Traída del Fuego will start on Monday, June 9 from La Rajita to continue its journey towards Chipude on June 10, the next stop being El Cercado the next day and arriving at Alojera on the 12th. High-level shows and performances will be held in each of the points of the municipality. On Friday, June 13, the fire will arrive in Vallehermoso, the day on which Arón Morales, author of the poster and designer of the program, will preach at the Lustral Festivals under the title “I would like to be Vallehermoso with the five senses.” The proclamation will take place at 9:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Iglesia.
Another of the most popular events will take place on June 20 with the celebration of the XXIII Pedro Suárez Festival, which will feature a performance by Achamán. One day later, on Saturday the 21st, the Adult Queen's Election Gala will take place at 9:30 p.m., while the Children's King and Queen Gala will take place on Sunday the 22nd starting at 7:00 p.m. The Senior Queen's Gala will be held on June 26.
Finally, the Romera Gala will be held on July 11 in Plaza De la Iglesia.
The eve of San Juan, the most important night of the year in Vallehermoso, will bring back the traditional bonfires whose lighting will take place at the passing of the Patron Saint, starting at 9:30 p.m. A great festival will liven up the night with the performance of Grupo Tentación and Grupo Amanecer from La Gomera. The next day, the traditional Witches' Ball will take place, starting at 9:30 p.m.
The Atlántico Sonoro Festival returns once again to the municipality, specifically between June 27 and 29, highlighting the performances of Pieles and Said Muti, in addition to various workshops and the popular wood sculpture by artist Luigi Stinga.
One of the highlights will be the commitment to the Vallehermoso 2025 Festival that will bring to the municipality artists of the stature of Óscar de León (on July 5, the day of 'El Polvazo'), the Tigres del Norte, on July 6, or Los Salvapantallas and Ni un Pelo de Tonto on July 4, within the Rock Festival.
But humor will also have a very important section, since on June 17 the humor festival will take place, which will bring Kike Pérez, Petit Lorena and Ayoze Pérez to the main stage, all starting at 9:00 p.m.
The Descent of the Virgin of Carmen
Marked in red on the calendar of any resident of Vallehermoso, on July 16, after the celebration of the Eucharist in the Plaza del Carmen at 4:00 p.m., the Descent of the Virgin will begin, who will be received in the Plaza de la Constitución at 10:00 p.m., at which time the baton of honorary and perpetual mayor will be imposed on her and the Ave Maria will be sung to her, which on this occasion will be performed by Silvia Zorita. Subsequently, the transfer to the parish will take place on May 16, 2025 until Thursday the 19th, when it will go down to the beach. That afternoon, on the main stage, the show 'La Osha' will be held, in tribute to Orishas, upon the return of the sacred image to the town of Vallehermoso.
Finally, the climb to the Ingenio will take place on the 22nd starting at 5:00 p.m. after the end of the Eucharist, with the Folk Festival and subsequent festival being held that night in Carmen.
Culture and sports
Culture and sports will also play a very important role, highlighting numerous actions that will feature Pedro García Cabrera, among which are musical-poetic recitals, theatrical dramatizations, reading workshops, conferences or a theatrical show. But there will also be exhibitions, book presentations or a new edition of the popular Song Festival, which on that occasion will take place on June 19 at 9:00 p.m.
Among the most important sporting events are Football Day on June 28, the II Trail Barranco del Ingenio on June 4 and 5, the Javi Bearán Campus on the 9th and the traditional Virgen del Carmen Cycle Tour on August 2.
