San Sebastián de La Gomera is now a space for 'Free Books'
This action is included within the 'Dive into the books' program, which began on July 6. With 'Free Books', locals and visitors will be able to find books for all audiences in different parts of the historic center.
The City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera invites you to immerse yourself in books this summer, both in digital and printed versions. And now the capital municipality has become a territory of 'Free Books'. This is an action that is included within the 'Dive into the books' program, of the Department of Culture of the local Corporation, which began last Wednesday, July 6, with the launch of the dynamic called 'Get to know me', through which different posters were installed in different parts of the historic center of the Colombian capital. Posters that bring together the literary work of more than 30 authors. These works can be downloaded through a QR code located at the bottom left of the posters.
For the mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes Herrera, this program is a different and attractive way to continue promoting literary culture in the municipality. "We want to go further, and not just limit ourselves to the library, or conventional reading spaces. That is why we included this program in the summer campaign, to give it a more versatile and creative nuance. Inviting citizens to immerse themselves in a good book, in a good story will always be a great idea, a good way to spend vacations and leisure time. Furthermore, taking advantage of the spectacular natural environments that exist in San Sebastián de La Gomera," said Reyes.
While the Councilor for Culture, Vanesa Vizcaíno Vera, expresses with this project her interest in promoting reading habits among citizens, providing them with the key elements to carry out this practice from an early age, covering all audiences. In this sense, Vizcaíno explained that two actions have already been carried out, 'Get to know me' and 'Free books', with which it can be read both digitally and in print. "We have in different parts of the urban area both panels with the authors and their works in QR codes, as well as books in physical format, distributed on benches, trees and different corners of large attendance."
In the coming weeks, new actions contemplated in the 'Dive into the books' program will be carried out, such as 'A Rain of Letters', 'Reading in Cholas', 'Reading gives you light', or a 'Book Tasting'. It will be throughout the summer and until the month of October that they will take place throughout the municipality. Since they will soon also be extended to the local neighborhoods. And some of them will occur by surprise and blending into the usual environment. But they will all be informed throughout these months on the municipal website www.sansebastiangomera.org, and on the City Council's own social networks.
