– La Gomera Tourism participates in one of the main international events in the sector with a proposal aligned with the Tourism Sustainability Strategy for 2030 and the island's new tourism products – The island councilor, María Isabel Méndez, maintains a broad agenda of meetings with platforms, media and specialized professionals to generate new opportunities for promotion and collaboration for the destination
Starting this Tuesday, La Gomera is participating in a new edition of the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, one of the main tourism fairs in the world, with the aim of continuing to strengthen its positioning in the international market and transferring to the professional sector the evolution of a tourism model based on sustainability, authenticity, the quality of the experience and the visitor's connection with the territory.
Turismo de La Gomera attends the event, which takes place at the ExCeL London venue, under the umbrella of Turismo de Islas Canarias, with a work agenda aimed at establishing new alliances with companies, platforms, media and content creators specialized in travel.
The island's Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, María Isabel Méndez, highlighted that the presence of La Gomera in the World Travel Market "allows us to transfer to one of the main international tourism showcases the work that the island has developed in recent years to consolidate its own tourism model, respectful of the territory and capable of offering differentiated and quality experiences."
In this sense, Méndez emphasized that La Gomera arrives in London "with a defined roadmap shared with the island tourism sector, which puts nature, our identity, sustainability and quality of the destination at the center, but also the well-being of those who live on the island."
This line of work is part of the Tourism Sustainability Strategy for 2030, presented this year to the tourism fabric of La Gomera and conceived as the framework for action to continue moving towards a more competitive, sustainable and coherent destination with its differential values.
Added to this is the development of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination 'La Gomera, Circular Island', which has made it possible to promote actions related to the improvement and maintenance of the Island Network of Trails, the La Gomera Trails application, the digitalization of tourist resources, environmental awareness and the circular economy, the improvement of tourist information infrastructure and the creation of new products linked to nature, culture and heritage.
Participation in the WTM will also serve to continue giving international projection to the six new tourism products created to diversify the offer, favor the distribution of tourist activity throughout the island territory and respond to a traveler profile increasingly interested in authentic experiences that are respectful of the destination.
The new offer is structured around ecotourism, hiking, cycle tourism, coastal tourism, agricultural tourism and cultural and ethnographic tourism, and brings together a total of 27 thematic routes that allow you to approach the landscape, history, traditions, coastline and the primary sector of La Gomera from different perspectives.
Méndez pointed out that "it is not only about promoting La Gomera, but about explaining what type of experience we want to offer and what destination model we want to continue building. These products allow us to approach the island more calmly, get to know less traveled spaces and generate a closer relationship with our landscape, our culture and our way of life."
Professional agenda in London
During the World Travel Market, the La Gomera delegation, headed by the island councilor, will develop an intense agenda of professional meetings aimed at exploring new avenues of collaboration, improving the international visibility of the island and bringing the Gomera tourism offer closer to companies and prescribers with the capacity to influence strategic markets.
Among the planned meetings is a meeting with Booking.com, focused on analyzing possible collaboration opportunities from the field of marketing and promotion of destinations, as well as an appointment with National Geographic Traveler, one of the international reference travel publications and especially linked to content on sustainable tourism, nature, conservation, culture and gastronomy.
The agenda also includes meetings with content creation and tourism communication professionals, including María Spyrou, co-founder of Storytelling That Counts, specialized in responsible travel and slow travel; journalist and presenter Aidy Smith; and Amy Hulley, co-founder of Voyage Content, a British creator specializing in destinations, nature, wellness and travel experiences.
The counselor will also hold a meeting with Le Petit Futé, in addition to participating in a meeting with the Tourism Department of the Government of the Canary Islands and Promotur within the framework of the RegNext program.
Added to these events are different communication actions and interviews with the media during the fair, as well as participation in institutional events organized in the Canary Islands.
