This is a recognition of the women who, with their work and dedication, have contributed to the development and sustainability of the rural world of La Gomera.
The Cabildo of La Gomera will celebrate this Thursday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m., at the Arure Cultural Center, in Valle Gran Rey, the second edition of the 'Women of the Earth' event, an emotional recognition of the women who, with their work and dedication, have contributed to the development and sustainability of the rural world of La Gomera.
During the meeting, the Cabildo will recognize the career and contribution of six women linked to the rural area of La Gomera, highlighting their dedication, ability to improve and contribution to the development of the island. This tribute aims to make visible the fundamental role that women play in La Gomera society, as well as their involvement in the conservation of customs, the transmission of knowledge and the maintenance of the identity of the territory.
The honorees will be Nuria María Rodríguez Hernández (Alajeró, parish collaborator), Cristina Mesa Herrera 'Agripina' (Chipude, Vallehermoso, farmer and rancher), Vanessa Guadalupe Herrera Rodríguez (San Sebastián, farmer), Emilia Magdalena Escuela 'Efigenia' (Agulo, farmer and rancher), Josefina Ángeles Medina Perdomo (Hermigua, farmer), and Ana Rosa Rodríguez Santos (Valle Gran Rey, artisan pastry chef), women whose career constitutes a living example of roots, dedication and female contribution to the progress of rural Gomero.
The island president, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the contribution of these women to the history and social and economic development of La Gomera, highlighting that “talking about rural women is recognizing generations that have played a fundamental role in the life of our people, in the transmission of knowledge and in the conservation of our traditions.”
The Cabildo invites citizens to participate in this act of collective recognition, which annually seeks to value the memory, present and future of the rural world through the stories of its protagonists: the Gomera women who have made the land their life and their legacy.
