La Gomera will celebrate, next Thursday, July 28, starting at 10:00 a.m., a day on sustainability for children and young people in the Torre del Conde Park, in San Sebastián. Under the name 'The ecological pirate', this environmental initiative of the Environment Unit of the Island Council, with the support of the San Sebastián City Council, aims to transmit awareness, attitudes and values among the youngest of the island through games and practical activities that allow them to know, understand and learn to take care of the environment.
The insular Minister of the Environment, Héctor Cabrera, emphasized the importance of carrying out informative and participatory actions that allow “bringing citizens closer to the importance of conserving and caring for the environment that surrounds us.” Likewise, he pointed to the didactics of games and field activities as “a unique and different opportunity to acquire, in a pedagogical way, knowledge about health, responsible commerce, science and culture, biodiversity and the environment.”
The activity, carried out by environmental educator Hilda Padilla, will allow attendees to carry out a series of tests and solve clues to find the key to the survival of humanity, thus proposing a reflection on healthy and environmentally friendly behaviors, generating a debate on the harms of uncivil behavior, and thus achieving participation and collaboration in the care of the people and nature.
Registration for the activity, aimed at children, young people and the rest of the community, is completely free, and can be formalized through this link.
'The ecological pirate' is an activity framed in the European cooperation project TREEMAC of the Euro-African Network of natural spaces, to promote the improvement of knowledge, valorization and management of biodiversity and ecosystems of the MAC 2014 2020 Cooperation Program, co-financed at 85% through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with the La Gomera Environmental Educational Network project of the Environment Unit of the Island Council.
