La Gomera advances in emergency actions to improve the waterproofing of dams and ponds

The action, which has an investment of more than 826 thousand euros, will make it possible to restore the waterproofing, improve drainage and access and incorporate new control systems in the Alojera pond and the Las Cabecitas dam, hydraulic infrastructures located in Vallehermoso affected by the storm Therese

The Cabildo of La Gomera, through the Insular Water Council, develops the actions planned for the repair and restitution of the Alojera Basin and the Las Cabecitas Dam, strategic infrastructures located in the municipality of Vallehermoso, and affected by the storm Therese in March of this year.

The island president, Casimiro Curbelo, recalled that these works are part of the set of four lines of action for the recovery of the island's hydraulic infrastructure as a consequence of this meteorological phenomenon, with an investment of more than 5.5 million euros.

In this case, the works will allow the improvement and replacement of the waterproofing of dams and ponds in La Gomera, and have a budget of more than 826 thousand euros, in order to repair the damage caused by precipitation and runoff and restore the necessary conditions for their correct functioning.

In the case of the Alojera pond, with a capacity of 70 thousand cubic meters, action will be taken on the damage caused to the waterproofing, the anchoring elements, the crown, the adduction channel and the control systems. The works include the replacement of the waterproofing sheet, the reconstruction of the anchors, the rehabilitation of the canal and the installation of new monitoring and control systems, all with an investment of more than 550 thousand euros.

On the other hand, at the Las Cabecitas dam, the intervention, to which more than 230 thousand euros are allocated, will focus on the repair of the waterproofing sheet, the conditioning of the technical access track, of approximately 285 meters, and the improvement of the drainage and evacuation systems affected by erosion and the dragging of sediments, in addition to the execution of passage works to channel runoff.
