Guía de Isora Guía de Isora, the only Canarian municipality with the Biosphere seal, presents its singularities at Fitur
The southern municipality is committed to sustainability, with very good forecasts regarding tourist occupancy.
Marina Comes, ambassador of the destination: “it was an absolute pleasure, after having visited 63 countries, to discover that in the Canary Islands there are gems that remain far from overexploitation, such as the case of Guía de Isora”
GUIA DE ISORA, January 19, 2023. Guía de Isora was presented at the International Tourism Fair with very good news. The gradual growth has allowed this municipality in the southwest of Tenerife to become a destination capable of hosting a few top-level hotel projects while preserving its natural character, its idiosyncrasy and its customs, attracting year after year active travelers and lovers of the environment.
“We have been working for years to promote an offer that is sustainable in the long term, where the improvement and recovery of heritage, socioeconomic development and the circular economy, as well as environmental conservation, are fundamental pillars when making decisions,” said Mayor Josefa Mesa Mora, who also claimed “the importance of municipalities in making decisions that affect tourism development” and of continuing to cooperate between administrations and the private sector, as encouraged by the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands, of which Guía de Isora is a founding member.
It is undeniable that Guía de Isora reaps the fruits of correct management, especially in recent years, in which it has achieved the Biosphere Destination certificate as a destination committed to sustainability in 2021, being the only municipality in the Canary Islands that has the distinction.
Fruits that also translate into good recovery data after the pandemic and excellent forecasts. With 60% occupancy since September, reaching 80% in hotel establishments and confirming that spending per tourist in the destination has increased. “Those who come care about consuming in local businesses and getting a complete experience in terms of sports and gastronomic experiences,” adds Lorena Medina, Councilor for Tourism Development.
Proof of this has been the support of one of the most prominent international tourism influencers, Marina Comes, who served as destination ambassador in Fitur after visiting the municipality during Easter 2022.
"I was able to see that Guía de Isora is committed to quality tourism, luxury, but also rural tourism. I was very surprised by the variety of nature and landscapes with spectacular and unique images. With hardly any overcrowding. Nowadays that has an incredible value," said Comes, who can also enjoy activities such as hiking, kayaking or diving, stating that "it was an absolute pleasure, after having visited 63 countries, to discover that in the Canary Islands there are gems that remain far from overexploitation such as the case of Guía de Isora”.
