November 2, 2026.- The Popular Party candidate for the Senate for La Gomera, Héctor Bencomo, is committed to consolidating the party as the “only reliable center-right political alternative for the Island, through work, effort and closeness to the citizens.” Bencomo defends the need to open a new political stage that allows renewing public institutions and responding to the main demands of the residents of the six Gomero municipalities.

The popular candidate assures that his objective is to convey to the majority of the population a message of "hope, change and renewal", with a "close, honest and brave" campaign that allows him to gain the trust of the residents of La Gomera. In this sense, Bencomo emphasizes that attending the Senate represents an opportunity to defend the interests of La Gomera from the Cortes Generales, supported by a party with representation throughout the national territory.

Among the main priorities that Bencomo raises is access to housing, for which he considers it necessary to "increase investment aimed at building new properties and establishing aid and incentives for the rehabilitation of existing ones." Likewise, it is committed to strengthening care for the elderly and dependent people, improving scholarships for students and increasing resources allocated to island education.

The PP candidate also considers it essential to revitalize the social and cultural activity of the six municipalities, as well as improve the quality of the island's tourism offering. In this area, he points out the need to address the problems of overcrowding that occur with the arrival of large cruise ships and to reinforce the cleaning and maintenance of highly visited spaces, such as viewpoints.

Support for the self-employed, companies and primary sector

Bencomo places the improvement of the business fabric among the priority challenges of La Gomera. “We must promote training in new technologies and establish incentives and aid for transport, the self-employed and small businesses, which face increasing difficulties in maintaining their activity,” he points out.

The popular candidate for the Senate also defends a recovery of the primary sector and rural areas, especially in the middle areas, “through aid that allows the recovery of traditional activities and the value of local products.”

In his opinion, La Gomera needs a reconversion of this sector to address the loss of jobs, knowledge and traditions, aggravated by the lack of generational change.

In terms of infrastructure, it calls for investments to recover coastal areas that have significant deficiencies, such as Alojera or La Caleta beach, in Hermigua, and La Calera beach, in Valle Gran Rey. It also considers it a priority to "definitively resolve the treatment and recycling of municipal wastewater through an island solution that is effective and respectful of the environment."

On the other hand, Bencomo highlights the need to protect natural heritage and proposes strengthening the control of invasive species with coordinated and sustained campaigns over time, as well as recovering and protecting native species and promoting the breeding of animals in danger of extinction.

Among his personal commitments, he also highlights the improvement of access to the Puntallana hermitage, with the aim of guaranteeing that residents and visitors “can safely go” to the sanctuary of the island's patron saint.

A new stage for the Popular Party of La Gomera

Héctor Bencomo frames these proposals in the new political stage that the PP of La Gomera faces, with the desire to strengthen the island project through the joint work of its members and sympathizers and under the direction of its island president, Alfredo Sebastián Herrera.

“All the work that remains to be done on our Island is an incentive to make us grow as a cohesive team,” defends the candidate, who is committed to an organization focused on listening to citizens and transforming their demands into concrete proposals.

“Our goal is to win these elections and do our part in the political change that is to come in our country,” concludes Bencomo.
