The public road transport company of the Island Council registered 27,891 travelers during September, 7.57% more than in the same month of 2025
The lines that connect Valle Gran Rey, Vallehermoso and the airport with San Sebastián register increases in the number of users
The Cabildo's public road passenger transport company, GuaguaGomera, has transported more than 268 thousand passengers between January and September of this year. Thus, the company dependent on the insular Institution closed this last month registering 27,891 travelers, which represents an increase of 7.57% compared to September 2025.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, pointed out that “public transport constitutes an essential service for the mobility of the population, especially in a territory like La Gomera, where connections between municipalities are essential to facilitate daily travel and access to strategic services and infrastructure.” Likewise, he pointed out that "the usual monitoring of passenger data allows us to know the mobility needs on the different routes and have information to adapt the frequencies and schedules to the demand that is registered on each of them."
Thus, the data reflects the evolution of the demand for public road transport on the island, with increases in several of the routes that connect the municipalities and the main mobility points of La Gomera.
During the month of September, line 1, which connects Valle Gran Rey with San Sebastián, registered an increase of 7.05% in the number of passengers compared to the same month of the previous year. Demand also increased on line 2, which connects Vallehermoso with the island capital, with an increase of 7.97%.
On the other hand, line 6, which connects Valle Gran Rey with the airport, experienced an increase of 18.28% in the number of travelers, while line 8, between Vallehermoso and Valle Gran Rey, also presented a positive evolution.
In relation to payment methods, so far this year, of the more than 268 thousand passengers recorded, more than 172 thousand used the voucher in its different modalities.
Continuous improvement of public transportation
During the last year, twelve new buses have been added, increasing the number of available vehicles from 18 to 24, in addition to launching a new mobile application that allows you to consult routes, schedules, stops and estimated arrival times, among other services. Likewise, the image of airport connections has been renewed.
To these measures will be added a new list of services that will increase the frequencies of regular public passenger transport by around 30% and expand the offer available on the different routes of the island, within the island strategy to adapt the service to the growth in demand and the mobility needs of residents and visitors.
