The 'La Gomera Learn' program trains more than 170 people on the island in digital skills

The Cabildo's initiative brought free training to the citizens of the six municipalities, with practical courses on the use of devices, electronic administration, aid and subsidies or artificial intelligence

The Cabildo of La Gomera takes stock of the 'La Gomera Learn' program, a digital skills training initiative that has allowed 174 people from different municipalities and ages to be trained, providing citizens with knowledge and tools to function with greater autonomy in the digital environment.

The project, promoted by the insular Institution and financed with Next Generation EU funds, offered completely free training with the aim of facilitating access to new technologies and reinforcing the skills necessary to carry out everyday digital tasks and procedures.

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that "the results of 'La Gomera Learn' highlight the importance of bringing digital training closer to citizens and doing it from proximity, addressing real needs." Likewise, he especially valued “the response of the participants and their interest in continuing to expand knowledge, to the point that several people completed two or even three training courses, which reflects the practical usefulness that the program has had.”

For his part, the first vice president and insular advisor of the Internal Regime, Adasat Reyes, stressed that "from the beginning of the training, an eminently practical and close training was proposed, not only about learning to use a device, but also about acquiring greater autonomy to interact with the Public Administration, carry out procedures, request aid and subsidies, or appropriately use the new digital tools."

The programming, articulated through training sessions lasting 11.5 hours, had content adapted to different levels of knowledge, and was developed in different spaces in the municipalities, including neighborhood associations, the School Residence and other resources close to the population, facilitating participation and preventing citizens from having to travel to a single point on the island to access the courses.

This approach has made it possible to reach very diverse profiles, both by age and previous level of digital knowledge, and adapt learning to common day-to-day situations. In this way, the training was not limited to the handling of devices, but was also aimed at helping participants acquire greater autonomy when interacting with the Administration, carrying out electronic procedures, requesting aid or using new digital tools.

'La Gomera Learns' is part of the actions aimed at improving the digital skills of the population and facilitating citizen access to the opportunities and services associated with the digital transformation process. The project has funding from the European Union – Next Generation EU, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
