This week, the IES San Sebastián de La Gomera was able to host a group of students from the Otto-Hahn-Schule educational center in Hamburg (Germany), within the framework of an international exchange financed by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.
During their stay, the visiting students have participated in numerous activities together with the boys and girls of the center, sharing educational, cultural and sports experiences that have favored coexistence and linguistic and intercultural exchange.
Among the activities carried out, a visit to the Juego de Bolas Visitor Center, a short walk to the Mirador de Abrante, a demonstration of the Silbo Gomero and a performance of traditional music with chácaras and drums stand out. Likewise, conversation classes in foreign languages, a dance workshop and a soccer match with the local team Once Diablos have been held.
The visit also had the collaboration of the CIFP La Gomera, where the German students had the opportunity to make paella and Spanish omelette together with the students and teachers of the Hospitality Department. This meeting has also allowed us to establish links with the coordination of the Erasmus+ VET project of the Vocational Training centre. As a result, Hamburg teachers have expressed interest in promoting future exchanges in the field of Vocational Training.
For his part, CEO Mario Lhermet of Hermigua has also participated in this experience by welcoming visiting students and organizing various linguistic communication workshops.
The Internationalization Coordination of the IES San Sebastián de La Gomera would like to express the most sincere gratitude to all the people and institutions that have made this welcome possible: to the staff of the School Residence, to the teaching staff and participating students of the IES San Sebastián de La Gomera and the CIFP La Gomera, as well as to the CEO Mario Lhermet and all the people who have contributed with their involvement and enthusiasm to the success of this experience.
This exchange has been a very enriching opportunity for the students, who have been able to see the importance of communicating in foreign languages, knowing and respecting other cultures and, at the same time, valuing and sharing the traditions and cultural heritage of La Gomera.
«Because learning languages is also opening doors, building friendships and discovering that, despite our differences, we have a lot to share. Thank you very much to all the people who have made it possible! Auf Wiedersehen, Hamburg! See you soon! », stated in a statement.
