The Cabildo advances in the stabilization of slopes at the access to the Vallehermoso coast

El Cabildo avanza en la estabilización de taludes en el acceso a la costa de Vallehermoso

The work is progressing along the three kilometers of route in which the different measures planned to improve the safety of the road are carried out.

The action includes the rehabilitation and stabilization of slopes, support systems and protection against landslides, in addition to the reinforcement of walls and the recovery of the pavement.

The Cabildo of La Gomera is advancing in the execution of emergency works for the adaptation and recovery of the road that connects the town of Vallehermoso with its coastal area, with the development of slope stabilization works along the three kilometers of route included in the action.

The work is carried out progressively at the different points of the road where protection and stabilization measures are contemplated, taking into account the specific characteristics and needs of each section. In this way, action continues on the areas that present the greatest problems of instability, with the aim of increasing the safety conditions of this road connection.

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that "the work continues to advance in an especially important action for Vallehermoso, not only because it is the main connection between the town and the coastal area, but also because the measures that are being carried out will allow for a safer and better prepared infrastructure against possible landslides and adverse weather events."

Curbelo recalled that the intervention has an estimated investment of 989,215 euros and includes a section of about three kilometers, affected by the landslides and episodes of instability recorded after the passage of Storm Therese.

The mayor of Vallehermoso, Emiliano Coello, highlighted that “this action is especially important for our municipality because we are talking about a fundamental route to connect the town with the coast and that provides daily service to neighbors, farmers, residents and users of the Maritime Park and the beach.”

Coello pointed out that "the stabilization of the slopes and the protection measures against landslides will allow progress towards a safer road prepared to face situations of instability, something that is a priority after the damage recorded after Storm Therese."

The mayor also valued the coordination with the Cabildo of La Gomera and pointed out that "it is important that the work progress progressively at the different points of the route and that the solutions adapt to the characteristics of each area, because we are talking about a strategic infrastructure for Vallehermoso and for the connection with our coast."

For her part, the insular Minister of Public Works, Cristina Ventura, explained that the progress of the work allows intervention in the different sectors planned within the route, adapting the technical solutions to the configuration and conditions of each slope. The project includes the rehabilitation and stabilization of the slopes, the installation of support systems and dynamic barriers, the reinforcement of walls and the replacement of the affected sections of road surface.

Ventura pointed out that "the very nature of the work requires that the work be carried out in a coordinated manner and adapted to the conditions of each point, since it intervenes on slopes with different characteristics and with specific solutions for each case." In this sense, he stressed that the objective is to continue advancing in the entire scope of action to complete the planned stabilization and protection measures.

The road serves homes, farms and different facilities in the coastal area, in addition to providing access to the beach and the Vallehermoso maritime park. The damage that motivated the action was linked to landslides and situations of instability of the slopes, which led to traffic cuts and risk situations.

The Cabildo reminds users of the need to take extreme caution during the development of the works and respect at all times the signage and indications provided on the road, especially at those points where work is being carried out on the slopes.
