The Cabildo of La Gomera has informed, this Tuesday, of the call to carry out tests to obtain the artisan's license. The registration period for this call is 20 business days starting this Tuesday, July 12, and applications can be submitted both at the General Registry and through the Cabildo's electronic headquarters.

The president, Casimiro Curbelo, pointed out the relevance of the craft sector for the island's economic fabric and its diversification, in addition to being an expression of the heritage wealth that La Gomera preserves, where around twenty craft trades persist, the continuity of which is guaranteed with the call and subsequent certification.

“It is a segment of the small manufacturing industry that generates wealth and employment, and that needs public support to face the challenges, which is why we program island-wide initiatives that encourage commercialization,” he said.

As explained by the Minister of Crafts, Miguel Melo, this certification allows access to different fairs and events, in addition to opting for public incentives granted by the insular Institution. Melo added that “this is an opportunity to expand and strengthen a sector that currently has more than 150 professionals who already have an artisan card on the island.”

The tests, whose date will be known in the coming weeks, will consist of two parts; one theoretical and the other practical. In both, applicants will have to show their skills in the different modalities in which they compete.

This initiative aims to provide continuity and encourage the conservation of artisan trades, which have been intensified with different training actions and workshops aimed at promoting the sector as well as promoting commercial revitalization and business activity.

Celebration of the Island Crafts Fair

Coinciding with the Lustral Festivals of Vallehermoso, the municipality will celebrate the Insular Crafts Fair scheduled for July 29 to 31, an annual event in which representatives of the craft sector from the different islands meet and which will serve as a showcase to make the public aware of the importance and value of the craft tradition.
