The project will have fifteen users, in accordance with the criteria of Social Services, and will be aimed, fundamentally, at people over 60 years of age.
The Hermigua City Council launches this Tuesday, July 7, the home physiotherapy service aimed at the group of elderly people in the municipality, especially those over 60 years of age and for whom, from the Department of Social Services, it is considered essential to provide this support.
This was explained by the mayor of Hermigua, Yordán Piñero, who explained that this program is financed with his own funds and will last until the end of the year. In addition, he recalled that from the City Council "we are reinforcing the attention and monitoring of the elderly people of the municipality during the summer. To do this, we follow up by telephone to find out their needs, attend to their requests and maintain constant communication with them, so that they know that we are at their side."
Regarding the new physiotherapy service, the Councilor for Social Services, María Encarnación Herrera, explained that the objective we have set for ourselves is to ensure that our elderly people achieve a greater level of autonomy and security through it. An activity that will be carried out in coordination with the Canarian Health Service, guaranteeing that progress or deterioration is notified to the patients' primary care physicians.
Likewise, he explained that, due to the Covid-19 health crisis, all the safety and hygiene measures dictated by the protocols will be taken and service will be limited to a maximum of fifteen users, with the service being carried out from Monday to Friday, in the morning.
Finally, Herrera detailed some of the objectives pursued by this important social program, such as: learning a daily routine of physical activities, strengthening muscles, maintaining and improving joint actions, reducing the risk of falls or promoting social life and avoiding isolation.
