The session, which will take place on Friday, October 23, at 6:00 p.m., will include an introductory talk to bring the public closer to the richness of the volcanic underwater ecosystems of the Canary Islands and the scientific and technical challenges of their exploration.
The Insular Auditorium of La Gomera hosts, this Friday, October 23, at 6:00 p.m., the screening of the film documentary 'Arrecifes de Lava', directed by underwater filmmaker Rafa Herrero Massieu. The session will allow the public to discover some of the most unknown ecosystems of the Canary archipelago through unpublished images of its seabed.
The island coordinator of the La Gomera Biosphere Reserve, Diego Chinea, highlighted that “this projection represents an opportunity to get closer to the extraordinary biodiversity that the Canary Islands seabed houses and promote knowledge and awareness about the importance of conserving our natural heritage.”
Thus, the session will begin with an introductory talk of between 20 and 30 minutes, which will address the scientific importance of lava reefs and the technical challenges involved in exploring and filming these environments at great depths.
Next, the 53-minute documentary will be screened, showing unpublished images of species, ecosystems and geological formations of great natural value.
'Lava Reefs' proposes a visual journey from the coastal shelf to the depths of the archipelago, showing spaces that, due to their extreme conditions and access difficulties, had remained practically unknown to humans.
The project has the support and financing of the Canarias Avanza con Europa program, through FEDER funds, the Government of the Canary Islands and the European Union.
