Curbelo supports the Health proposal for La Gomera to move to phase 2 this Monday

The island president affirms that the health and control parameters are in place to advance one step and be able to incorporate the opening of new activities linked to the service sector.

The materialization of the phase change now depends on the authorization of the Ministry of Health

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, has supported, this Thursday, the proposal proposed by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, so that La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa access phase 2 of the de-escalation starting this Monday, May 18. “We share the approach transferred to the Ministry, since the health and control parameters are given,” he explained.

He appealed for responsibility “to be certain that we are incorporated with guarantees and the ability to gradually resume activity in the different economic sectors,” which is why he announced that mobility restrictions with the rest of the islands will be maintained, as well as controls in the port of the island capital and the inoperability of commercial flights with the airport.

Regarding the changes planned from the entry into the new phase, the island president pointed out that it will depend on what the Ministry of Health stipulates in the order that it publishes this weekend, although he announced that among the novelties would be the reopening of table services inside bars at a third of occupancy, the lifting of use restrictions in the common areas of tourist accommodation or the resumption of hunting and sport fishing.

In addition, it is proposed to expand the capacity of places of religious worship by up to half, celebrating weddings with a limited number of attendees and wakes for a less limited number of family members with physical distance and safety protocols.

La Gomera, without active cases since April

La Gomera, along with El Hierro, La Graciosa and Formentera, entered the first phase of de-escalation on May 4, after registering adequate sanitary conditions to relax mobility limitations and begin the implementation of some economic activities.

In the case of the island, it was on April 23 when it stopped registering positive cases. Until that date, the cases registered on the island were exported from Germany, Italy, Madrid and Tenerife.
