The island president, Casimiro Curbelo, and the general director of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Francisco Rodríguez, hold a working meeting to analyze different measures to promote donation on the island

The Cabildo of La Gomera and the general directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy of the Canarian Health Service collaborate to reinforce blood donation on the island. Thus, the island president, Casimiro Curbelo, and the general director, Francisco Rodríguez, held a working meeting to address possible avenues of collaboration between both institutions with the aim of reinforcing the promotion of blood donation on the island.

The third vice president and insular counselor of Social Services, Rosa Elena García, and the technician of the Communication and Marketing Area of the General Directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy Idaira Reyes also participated in the meeting. During the meeting, possible actions were analyzed to facilitate the involvement of entities and social agents of La Gomera in the development of future blood donation campaigns aimed at both the resident population and people who visit the island territory.

Casimiro Curbelo recalled that "blood donation is an essential solidarity gesture to guarantee health care and requires the involvement of the entire society." Thus, he pointed out that "from the Cabildo of La Gomera we are willing to collaborate with the General Directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy to facilitate the campaigns reaching the population and to contribute, from our possibilities, so that citizens know the importance of donating blood on a regular basis."

For his part, Francisco Rodríguez pointed out that "having the support and collaboration of the Cabildo of La Gomera is essential to promote blood donation on the island. We are very grateful for the welcome, attention and willingness shown during the meeting and we trust that new avenues of collaboration will emerge from this meeting that will allow us to bring closer and strengthen the donation campaigns in La Gomera."

One of the measures analyzed was the participation of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy in the 'Gomera Paradise Sky Race' sports event to promote blood donation between today and Saturday in this test that will take place over the weekend.

Likewise, collaboration between both institutions was proposed for the development of a blood donation marathon at the end of the year, to close the 2026 action calendar, and with the aim of strengthening blood reserves for the Christmas period.

The Cabildo of La Gomera raised the possibility of reinforcing the dissemination of the campaigns by labeling different bus lines and using a screen located on a marquee, where informative and promotional material for the donation marathon could be projected.
