The 'La Gomera Acompaña' program develops during October a program of activities aimed at promoting the participation, creativity and well-being of people with functional diversity and/or linked to the field of mental health

The offer includes the musical workshop 'Traveling between melodies', taught by Domingo Santos Chávez, with sessions scheduled between October and December

The Cabildo of La Gomera continues to develop diversity and inclusion workshops within the framework of the 'La Gomera Acompaña' program, an initiative that seeks to promote social integration, personal autonomy and the physical and emotional well-being of people with functional diversity and/or linked to the field of mental health. This action is financed by the insular Institution, within its policies to support social well-being and active aging, and is developed in collaboration with APEDECA.

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the importance of giving continuity to this type of initiatives, "which contribute to strengthening social care and generating new opportunities for participation for people with functional diversity and linked to the field of mental health."

For her part, the insular Minister of Social Policy, Rosa Elena García, valued the diversity of the proposals, "which allow different abilities and skills to be worked on in an inclusive environment, while promoting socialization, self-esteem and emotional well-being."

Activities program

The October program includes different types of workshops at the APEDECA facilities (Calle Real, number 65, San Sebastián de La Gomera), designed to stimulate the physical, cognitive, emotional and social capacities of the participants.

Among the proposals is the drama therapy workshop, with sessions on October 14 and 28, in two shifts, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. This activity uses theatrical and body expression resources to promote communication, creativity and the expression of emotions.

Likewise, the music workshop has sessions on October 10, 22 and 30, combining rhythm activities, musical expression and group participation. The meetings are held on October 10 and 30, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., and on October 22, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On the other hand, the painting workshop takes place on October 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., and is aimed at enhancing creativity, artistic expression and cognitive stimulation through different plastic techniques.

The offer is completed with the movement and health workshop, scheduled for October 7, 13, 20 and 27. The sessions will take place on October 7, from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.; on October 13 and 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; and on October 20, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., and incorporate proposals for adapted physical activity, coordination and body movement, with the aim of promoting mobility, autonomy and healthy habits.

Inclusion through music

As part of this programming, the project incorporates the workshop 'Traveling between melodies', taught by the musician Domingo Santos Chávez, known artistically as 'DoMisax'.

This initiative proposes an approach to music as a tool for expression, participation and emotional connection, offering attendees the opportunity to enjoy a shared musical experience in an inclusive environment.

The sessions are scheduled for October 22, November 5, December 3 and December 17, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the APEDECA facilities in San Sebastián de La Gomera.

Registration and information

The workshops are aimed at older people with functional diversity and/or linked to the field of mental health, both individually and through associations and entities.

The activities take place at the APEDECA headquarters, in San Sebastián de La Gomera, while in the rest of the island's municipalities the program includes the provision of home services, in order to facilitate access to participating people regardless of their place of residence.
