San Sebastián de La Gomera carries out the implementation of a permanent leak remote management system

The Orilla del Llano and Las Galanas sectors will have a system that will remotely control the hydraulic behavior of each sector, from a control center

The City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera begins the implementation of a permanent remote management system for water leaks, specifically in the Orilla del Llano and Las Galanas sectors. This is a project through which leaks are detected and reduced, and water loss rates in the municipal supply network are measured. All this through a system that will remotely control the hydraulic behavior of each sector, from a control center.

This is reported by the mayor of the entity, Adasat Reyes Herrera, who argues that "this Government Group has encountered a deteriorated and obsolete municipal supply network, which has caused significant water losses in certain areas of the municipality. Given the general poor state of conservation of this network, we have faced it since the beginning of the legislature, and we continue to advance to achieve the location of leaks and consequently the reduction of losses."

Reyes highlights that "we started with these two specific sectors, Orilla del Llano and Las Galanas, because they are areas where the level of loss continues to be high, despite the different actions that we have undertaken to resolve this situation."

For his part, the Councilor for Works and Services, Alonso García Díaz, details that this project has involved an amount of 39,450 euros, coming from the municipal budget for the 2021 financial year and involves “the incorporation of hydraulic equipment, as well as the installation of communications equipment.” “We are committed to this project, since we are aware of the efficiency of this methodology for the effective reduction of leaks, thanks to the knowledge of references that have been successful,” states García.

Specifically, this system will allow the collection and storage of all the planned signals, secure transmission to the control center, for subsequent exploitation through a complete management program that includes a real-time visualization system of the variables and alarms collected in the system and will enable the execution of remote control orders on possible active elements of the network. For this reason, two operational control units will be installed, each of them at the head of the two hydraulic subsectors corresponding to Orilla del Llano and Las Galanas.

It should be noted that this project has an execution period of eight weeks, in which the installation of hydraulic equipment, installation and configuration of a remote communications station, functional tests and adjustments, an intensive campaign to locate leaks and monitoring and analysis of the minimum nighttime flow records will be carried out, over a period of two months.
