This initiative, which is part of the RTVC campaign, 'We are healthy', begins today with the broadcast on Televisión Canaria, Canarias Radio and other digital media in the public medium of the four videos provided by Health and under the title of "Recipes for hope." In them, different health workers who care for people who suffer from eating disorders provide advice on healthy habits such as following a healthy diet and exercising, on raising awareness, especially among the youngest, on how to detect the onset of these disorders or on the importance of going to professionals when any symptoms appear.
Those in charge of signing this agreement with which both entities intend to warn about the importance of detecting any symptom that warns of the presence of any of these diseases have been Francisco Moreno, sole administrator of RTVC, and Blas Trujillo, Minister of Health.
"With the broadcast of these videos, we act as a vehicle for transmitting something so necessary in our Autonomous Community as warning about eating disorders that have a special incidence in the Canary Islands. The first thing we have to generate is awareness and healthy lifestyle habits that prevent these disorders," said Francisco Moreno, sole administrator of RTVC.
For his part, Blas Trujillo, Minister of Health, thanked the public entity "for its willingness to collaborate in the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits and in the prevention of these disorders that last year registered more than 5,800 medical consultations in the Canary Islands." In addition, He announced that the Ministry of Health plans a series of visits to educational centers to continue promoting awareness among young people.
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are mental health conditions that involve problems with what you think about food and your eating habits. These disorders mainly affect adolescents, whose symptoms begin to be detected between the ages of 12 and 13, and the pandemic has accentuated their appearance.
Eating disorders affect the body's ability to obtain the necessary and adequate nutrients, and can lead to heart and kidney health problems, or even lead to death. People with eating disorders can look healthy and yet be extremely sick.
