The president of the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group
advocates promoting physical activity as an essential element to achieve
healthy habits
The president of the Gomera Socialist Group (ASG) Parliamentary Group,
Melodie Mendoza, defended this Monday, the 17th, carrying out an effort
to promote adapted sport in the Islands, which allows continued progress
in inclusion. In this sense, he also advocated continuing to work to
execute appropriate improvements to adapt sports facilities.
“If we want an accessible and barrier-free Archipelago we must go further
there and undertake the works that are necessary for the adaptation of the
sports facilities and complexes that exist on the Islands and that this
allows the performance of any sporting activity,” said Mendoza.
“We all recognize the values and benefits that sport brings to life.
society, values and benefits that are doubled when we talk about sport
adapted, where obviously the sacrifice is greater,” he stated.
The ASG representative stressed that “among all administrations, it is necessary to
commit to greater social integration of the most vulnerable groups,
for example, through programs to promote adapted sports.”
“We have to continue working to promote equal opportunities and,
For this reason, we consider it essential that the most vulnerable groups and

scope to facilitate their practice,” he stated.
In Mendoza's opinion, “it is essential to promote physical activity and
sport as an essential element to achieve healthy habits in the most
young people and in Canarian society in general, especially if we take into account
that the Canary Islands is one of the autonomous communities with the highest percentage of
childhood obesity, and this high result responds to two factors
mainly, bad eating habits and the little physical activity that
our young people are doing.”
“From the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group we have always
considered important the improvement and conditioning of the
sports infrastructures, therefore, now that we have the new Law
of Sports, we understand that it is the right time to address all the
pending actions," highlighted the Gomera representative. Likewise, she stated that "the
Reality demands that sport must be inclusive and that sport
feminine must be empowered, must take its rightful place
because today none of us escape the fact that women's sports have not
occupied the place it deserves; and therefore, these are two battles that the
sport must still win, integration and equality.”
