Under the motto 'In the footsteps of History', the programming starts on September 2 and 3 with two conferences focused on Ibero-American culture and the historical relations between the Canary Islands and America, and continues on the 4th with the proposal 'La Gomera through cinema'

The LXV edition of the Columbian Days begins this week with a program that, during its first days, focuses on history, Ibero-American culture, the links that have united the Canary Islands and America over the centuries and the cinematographic look at La Gomera.
Under the motto 'In the footsteps of History', this edition of the Conference proposes a reflection on the value of democracy and the need to know and preserve historical memory as tools to strengthen freedom, coexistence and dialogue in the face of current challenges.
The programming starts today, Wednesday September 2, at 8:00 p.m., at the Casa Pozo de La Aguada, in San Sebastián de La Gomera, with the conference “Theaters, prayers and popular poets: the décima as a common denominator of Ibero-American culture.”
The presentation will be given by Eduardo Duque González, graduate in Art History and master in Andalusian Artistic Heritage and its Ibero-American Projection, who will delve into the fundamental role that poetry played as a cultural backbone in the encounter between the Old and the New World. This conference aims to be a review of the multiple expressions of this process that have remained in literature, art and iconography, taking the dissemination of the tenth spinel as a common denominator and integrating element of the Spanish, Canarian and American cultural legacy.
He Thursday September 3, also in the Customs House, starting at 8:00 p.m., the conference 'Colón and La Gomera: weaving the Canarian-American link' will take place, led by Ángel Dámaso Luis León, professor of the American History area of the University of La Laguna, within the La Gomera Campus, who will address the strategic role of La Gomera in the Columbian voyages, the stay of Christopher Columbus on the island and the importance of the Canary Islands as a stopover and connection space between Europe and America.
The event will be completed, at 9:00 p.m., with a musical performance by the Piazzolla Quartet, thus incorporating music into the cultural dialogue between both shores of the Atlantic.
Programming will continue Friday, September 4 in the municipality of Alajeró, where the proposal 'La Gomera through cinema' will take place, organized by the Cultural Cinema Classroom of the La Gomera Campus of the University of La Laguna and 'Film Talks'.
The activity will begin at 7:00 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the Alajeró City Council, and will include a cinema screening of films with scope inside and outside the Canary Islands, such as 'Guarapo', 'In the heart of the sea', 'The fog and the doncella' or 'La Gomera', among others. Subsequently, a colloquium will take place with the participation of Manuel Díaz Noda, Fernando de Iturrate and Fabián Orán, in which they will reflect on how the landscapes, history, culture and identity of the island have been projected in these audiovisual pieces.
