The decrease in losses reduces the water that San Sebastián requests from the Island Council to historic lows

The amount used decreases from 728,000 m3 in 2018 to 537,000 in 2019

The City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera took stock this Friday of the volumes of water requested by the municipality from the Insular Water Council of La Gomera, for the supply of homes, and which have had three quarters with historic lows. These figures contrast with individual household consumption, which remains at similar figures, with occasional upward spikes.

In this regard, the mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes, indicated that "in the last three quarters we have needed 36% less water to maintain reserves in the supply tanks that nourish an important part of our population centers."

“A decrease that benefits the whole of La Gomera, the result of the important investment that has been made, and continues to be made, by the City Council, in collaboration with the Cabildo and the Council, to tackle the high losses suffered by our supply network and which have involved an investment of 1,400,000 euros since 2015,” he stated.

However, Reyes assured that this good news should not invite optimism and increase consumption, "quite the opposite, because the reality is that water reserves are limited, coupled with the dry winter that we are facing and an uncertain and variable future."

For this reason, he announced that the City Council will continue investing to modernize the water supply network with a notable item included in the new budget, both for replacing pipes and for providing it with elements that will allow increasing flow control and leak detection.

Finally, and with regard to the figures for the volume of water from the La Gomera Water Council, it should be noted that in 2018 it was necessary to have 728,000 m3, compared to 537,000 m3 in 2019.
