Initiative for La Gomera (IxLG) demands that Guaguagomera immediately restore the bus service in La Puntilla and Charco del Conde

Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG) exige a Guaguagomera restituir de inmediato el servicio de guaguas en La Puntilla y el Charco del Conde

Cristian Pomares, councilor of the formation in Valle Gran Rey, denounces that the lack of passage of the Guaguagomera lines after the storm Therese seriously harms neighbors and visitors in the middle of the high season.

The local committee demands urgent rectification of the horizontal signage around the Hotel Gran Rey to allow heavy vehicles to turn around and reactivate unattended stops.

The local committee of the Initiative for La Gomera (IxLG) in Valle Gran Rey demands the urgent reorganization and restitution of the discretionary and regular public transport lines passing through the neighborhoods of La Puntilla and Charco del Conde. Since Storm Therese caused damage to the road at the mouth, the buses of the Guaguagomera company have stopped providing service in these strategic centers of the municipality.

Cristian Pomares, councilor and spokesperson for the left-wing party in the Valle Gran Rey City Council, describes the extension of this temporary measure as unsustainable. "Currently, when the bus arrives at the Mago roundabout from El Llano, it turns around to pick up and drop off passengers exclusively at the Pescuecito bus shelter. Although this provisional solution could be understood in the first moments of the emergency, more than enough time has already passed to adapt the itineraries and return the service to the resident population and the numerous tourists who stay in this area," says Pomares.

From the progressive formation they question institutional passivity in the face of a problem that affects the daily lives of citizens and the tourist image of the municipality. "It seems that for the competent administrations the needs of the neighborhood are not a priority; perhaps if the protest came directly from a tour operator addressed to the person truly in charge, the problem would have been resolved today," ironically the municipal spokesperson.

To solve this situation quickly and effectively, Initiative for La Gomera (IxLG) proposes a simple technical action on the ground: the rectification of the painting of the road signs on the road in the vicinity of the Hotel Gran Rey. With this adjustment in the delimitation of lanes and maneuvering spaces, the necessary clearance would be guaranteed so that large-tonnage vehicles can make the change of direction in complete safety and resume the route through the usual stops.

"This intervention cannot be delayed even one more day. The residents of these neighborhoods have to walk considerable distances to the nearest stops, a situation that tourists also suffer. We are in the middle of the high tourist season and the inaction of the government group and the island authorities is incomprehensible. We demand political will and speed to immediately reactivate these essential stops both for our neighbors and for the local economy," concludes Cristian Pomares.
