The ICHH thanks the donors who have helped save lives.
The Provincial Federation of Metal and New Technologies Companies of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Femete) closed its 40th anniversary yesterday with a blood donation collection at its headquarters in La Laguna. The majority of donors have been Femete technical staff, professionals, teachers and students of the center.
This action has been developed through the Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH), dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, within its “Recharge lives” campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the periodic need to donate and activate a social commitment that accompanies each person throughout their life.
The ICHH has expressed its gratitude to Femete "for allowing Femete to be present in its workplace and making the possibility of donating blood more accessible to the population of the area and collaborators. To point out the good predisposition of the people who participated and to inform you that we obtained the participation of 23 donors who have helped save lives in our hospitals. We also understand that their special personal involvement and their human qualities have led us to achieve success in this collaboration."
Femete's initiative is also part of the #YoSoyResponsable campaign that this federation is running to promote altruistic, solidarity and volunteer initiatives that contribute to increasing the well-being and quality of life of Canarian society, while bringing Social Responsibility closer to its nearly 1,500 associated companies, mostly micro-SMEs.
Who can be a donor?
The main requirement to be a donor is the person's willingness to make a donation. The rest of the minimum conditions are the following:

- A good state of general health is necessary. Before each donation, health personnel perform a history and an examination to assess whether you are fit to donate.

The donation process can be carried out in approximately 20 minutes:
- Reading information about the donation and legal aspects of it.
- Completion of the informed consent (healthcare personnel questionnaire and authorization).
- Interview and examination of health personnel (physical examination, measurement of blood pressure, pulse, hemoglobin).
- Blood extraction.
- Rest and recovery time.
When can you donate?
- Men can donate up to 4 times a year (every 3 months) and women 3 (every 4 months), with a minimum interval of 2 months between donations.
- For plasma donations it would be an interval of 15 days between donations with a limit of 24 donations per year.
- For platelet donations the minimum interval between each donation is 48 hours. But it is usually done once a month.
