The municipality of Alajeró will 'turn off' public lighting this Saturday for 'Earth Hour'

It is a global movement driven by WWF Spain which invites you to turn off lights and non-essential electrical appliances on the last Saturday in March from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (local time) to raise awareness about the fight against climate change and the loss of biodiversity.

The Alajeró City Council will 'turn off' this Saturday, March 28 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. the public lighting and municipal buildings and spaces for the celebration around the world of the so-called 'Earth Hour'.

On this occasion, the Municipal Council has been continuously joining this WWF SPAIN initiative for 20 years, which was held for the first time in 2007 in Sydney (Australia) and which in 2008 brought together more than 200 million people and more than 200 countries.

The original idea is for institutions, companies, monuments or emblematic spaces to turn off the lights for an hour, but the aim is to go further and that is why citizens are invited to join in during that period of time with gestures or with some activity such as learning about the planet, being in contact with nature, etc. It is ultimately a call for each person or entity to act in favor of a more sustainable future and to raise awareness about polluting emissions and the need to adopt measures against climate change.

The Alajeró City Council invites the population to join this global initiative and movement, based on the conviction that the impacts of climate change are undeniable. Although also with the hope that collective action recovers species, protects ecosystems, promotes agreement and accelerates clean energy.
