The aid, with amounts ranging between 1,500 and 2,700 euros, reinforces the commitment of the island Institution to the training and mobility of students outside the Archipelago.
The insular Institution allocates more than 2.2 million euros to the set of measures to support students
The Cabildo of La Gomera has decided on the annual call for Erasmus and Sicue scholarships, aimed at Gomero students pursuing higher education studies in Spanish and European universities within academic mobility programs. In this edition, more than a dozen young people from the island have benefited from this aid, which reaches amounts between 1,500 and 2,700 euros, depending on the duration of their stay at the academic center outside the Canary Islands.
The island president, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted that these scholarships “are an example of the Cabildo's commitment to our young people and their families, because we believe that training and international experience are key to their future.” In this sense, he stressed that this is a measure that complements the aid granted by other public administrations, "so that no Gomero student sees their academic development limited for economic or geographical reasons."
"Every year we allocate significant resources to guarantee equal opportunities and strengthen access to education at all levels. This type of support is a direct investment in the talent and future of our youth," said Curbelo.
For her part, the Minister of Education, Rosa Elena García, explained that the Cabildo of La Gomera allocates more than 2.2 million euros annually to the set of educational support measures, which include study scholarships, aid for textbooks, agreements with the Canarian public universities, the UNED and school transportation programs. “They are policies that are part of the social shield that we have consolidated in recent years, to which we allocate seven out of every ten euros of the island budget,” he noted.
