The Cabildo promotes sustainable mobility and gives electric vehicles to the Hospital and Puertos Canarios

The island Institution reinforces the sustainable mobility strategy by incorporating this type of vehicles into the public services provided by these entities on the island

Curbelo highlights the importance of continuing to advance in the renewal of the island's mobile fleet, for which the Cabildo will allocate a line of incentives aimed at the acquisition of electric vehicles

The Cabildo of La Gomera has donated two electric vehicles to the Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe and the public entity Puertos Canarios, within the framework of the sustainable mobility strategy in the public administrations of the island. This was reported by the president, Casimiro Curbelo, during the transfer ceremony in which the manager of Health Services, Guacimara Barrera, participated; the director of Puertos Canarios in La Gomera, Raico Rodríguez, and the Minister of Industry, Miguel Melo.

The incorporation of these vehicles to the services of the hospital center and ports is added to the rest of the actions previously carried out with the town councils and the Insular Water Council, which have benefited from the planning established by the insular Institution to size the renewal of the mobile fleet of public administrations, reported the president, Casimiro Curbelo.

“We are taking another step in terms of mobility, since we cooperate with city councils and public entities to join the strategy undertaken by the Cabildo two years ago, which we now scale with the provision of incentives for the purchase of electric passenger cars by individuals,” explained Curbelo, who indicated that this year's accounts have a specific item.

In this sense, he pointed out the need to articulate initiatives of this type with the purpose of achieving the objectives set in the Sustainable Mobility Plan and insists on expanding the implementation of the electric vehicle, which barely exceeds 1% of the passenger cars registered on the island, "a situation that we have begun to reverse and that will be accentuated with the launch of the network of charging points that is about to come into operation," he said.

Renewal of the Cabildo's vehicle park

The Cabildo of La Gomera has recently acquired 12 new Hyundai Ioniq-5 electric vehicles, whose investment has amounted to 457 thousand euros granted by the Government of the Canary Islands, from a subsidy intended for energy efficiency and the implementation of the electric vehicle, and which are added to the 10 that came into operation in 2020.
